1301.0. "Categoric approach to Mandelbrot" by HERON::BUCHANAN (combinatorial bomb squad) Mon Sep 24 1990 16:32
One of our customers is University of Siegen in (West) Germany, and
through this I met an enthusiastic mathematician who has recently sent me
some material. He is an interesting chap, doing some work currently
with the Soviet Academy of Sciences as well as several other collaborations.
His speciality is linking fractals together with cellular automata
based on a strongly category-theory oriented approach. The representation
of negative and complex dimensional curves is an easy consequence of his
method. He is also interested in the stability of dynamical systems, again
with a firmly algebraic approach to the problem.
Unfortunately, I am extremely tied up with work currently, and I'm
not going to be able to give his material the attention which it deserves.
If anyone is interested, I can forward his letter (in English) and his
background reports (required reading for the letter, but in (easy) German
(with lots of diagrams)). However, I should warn that the material is
not at all trivial, and you should think very carefully before saying "Yes".
I believe it would be worth the effort however, and particularly one could
establish a relationship with a very pleasant academic.
Regards,
Andrew.
