1101.0. "a meta-question" by HERON::BUCHANAN (Andrew @vbo DTN 828-5805) Mon Jul 17 1989 04:38
A request:
I want to send some stuff to the French Federation for Mathematical
Games, an organization that I have some dealing with, to convince them
that Digital's notesfile network is a wonderful way to share information
about Maths. This is also likely to generate some good PR for Digital,
in the academic community in France.
So, I wanted to copy out some of the highlights of this conference,
to show the kind of thing going on. This gives rise to two questions:
(1) If I copy out certain notes that seem to me to be interesting,
will any of the participants object? In particular, I was thinking of
taking out all of Notes 7 and 1089 (coin balance and recent group theory
puzzle), because I was involved in them, and also 700-707 (but only the
header notes, not the replies) to show a random slice of the notes.
So: if anyone from the following list does not want the relevant
note copied, could they please tell me now?
7: AKQJ10::YARBROUGH (& 701)
BEING::POSTPISCHIL
CLT::GILBERT (& 1089 & 702 & 704-706)
1089: AITG::DERAMO
DWOVAX::YOUNG (& 700)
703: EAGLE1::BEST
707: BALZAC::COULON
710: CLUSTA::KELLEHER
If I do not hear within a week, I will assume acquiescence.
(2) Given that my exploration of this notesfile is quite partial,
what notes do people think are particularly good, and worth extracting,
where's the beef? What are you really proud of in what you've put in
in the last few years? The notes I mentioned earlier are entirely
random: I'd like to assemble a list of the most interesting notes.
Many thanks,
Andrew.

| Okay with me. Did my note have the right answer? :-)
However, you should first check with network security.
It is a bad idea to give out valid node::name's and so
you may want to edit all of those out. Which isn't easy
because they are not just in the note header but also may
be in personal names or the text.
