646.0. "2^n = sum of powers of 3" by CLT::GILBERT (eager like a child) Thu Jan 15 1987 21:08
n
Find all natural n such that 2 is the sum of distinct powers of 3.
2 1 0 8 5 2 1 0
E.g., 2 = 3 + 3 , 2 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 .
This, and the following few notes concern interesting problems of moderate
difficulty from the Western Number Theory conference. This one was posed
by Neville Robbins. Hansraj Gupta has claimed that he has a complete solution,
but details are not yet forthcoming.
