415.0. "Graph drawing software?" by TAV02::NITSAN () Mon Dec 23 1985 01:12

  Does anybody know something about an appropriate graph drawing software?

  What I mean is a piece of software that gets (as input) a description of
a directed graph (i.e. the nodes & links etc.) and attempts to place the
nodes and the links on a 2-dimensional picture, maybe with some optimization
of the drawing.

  I know of something to draw "trees" automatically, but that is not enough...

I am working on a project called GRAPHER that does this sort
of thing. The current base level only handles trees, but code
for more general graphs is done, but not yet completely
documented. The functional spec can be found in
HARE::GRAPHER$PUBLIC:FUNCTIONAL_SPEC.MEM.  Watch the note file,
HARE::SYS$NOTES:GRAPHER.NOT for future announcements.

Base level 2 of GRAPHER is now available. See the GRAPHER.NOT
note file for details.

In case anyone is still interested in this type of problem, GRAPHER died a
quiet death a while back, but NETED (Network Editor) and GObE (Graphic
Object Editor) are now standard products.
