150.0. "Mr. Matrix" by HARE::STAN () Mon Sep 17 1984 02:43
I received the following ad in the mail:
MR. MATRIX
Matrix Manipulation Software for the IBM PC
Mr. Matrix can multiply, invert, transpose, and general-
ly keep track of and manipulate up to 25 matrices. It can
handle matrices with real entries; matrices with complex
entries; or matrices with entries in the finite fields of
order p, p squared, 8, 16, or 27. In addition, it can test
matrices for being orthogonal, symplectic, or unitary; it can
calculate determinants; and--to a limited extent--it can find
eigenvalues of matrices with real entries. Apart from matrix
calculations, the program can, of course, do scalar arith-
metic in any of the aforementioned fields. You will find this
to be useful when doing calculations in these fields, even if
what you're doing doesn't involve matrices at all.
Mr. Matrix is not the last word on numerical accuracy.
Round off errors do occur; overflows might. Nevertheless, the
program gives good results for the kind of matrices that tend
to arise in linear algebra courses, linear programming prob-
lems, etc. Then too, when it is used over a finite field, the
question of numerical accuracy does not arise.
The program is currently available for the IBM PC with
DOS. Any size (i.e., memory capacity in kilobytes) PC will
do; only 1 disk drive is needed; and the program will work
with any printer--or without a printer.
Mr. Matrix, $20.00, no additional charges for postage or
handling, NJ residents add 6% sales tax.
