900.0. "DHEA as a Fat Burner" by POLAR::TURNERW () Mon Oct 23 1995 10:21

    DHEA has been in the news a far bit recently as a fat-burning
    supplement which is not effected by insulin-resistance. The pure DHEA
    (dehydrepiandrosterone) is a steroid produced by the adrenal gland, and
    as such only available by prescription. There are however, at least 3
    direct sales companys that have taken a different route to produce a
    DHEA precursor ( 2 companies ) and a DHEA analog ( the other comany),
    all being refined from Mexican Wild Yam (which is noted elsewhere as a
    natural birth control).

    Emprise and Life Plus have refined the yam into Dioscorea a precursor
    which is 3 to 4 steps before DHEA and is allowing the body to process
    this compound into DHEA. The other company Neways, has decided to
    refine the yam into a sulfhydrated and florinated Estradiol compound
    which has the charm of not being able to back track into testosterone.
    The Estradiol in its normal state is one of the Estrogen twins. The
    Sulfhydrating and flourinating triples the fat burning ability of this
    compound and apparently makes it different enough from a hormone to
    allow it to be sold openly.

    My wife took part in the feild trial of the test compound of the
    estradiol product ( called Youthinol ) with some interesting results.
    She found that there was a very noticable burst of energy and a warm
    feeling about 20 min. after taking the capsules, and that at the 4 week
    point that she was losing more inches than pounds.

    It should be interesting to see how this new ingredient makes out in
    the next short while

    Cheers   Walt.

900.1And the results.......STOWOA::MOISANMon Nov 27 1995 19:2616
    Hi Walt,
    Can you offer us an update as to the progress your wife is making on
    the
    DHEA. My chiropracator had recommended it to me for a variety of
    symptoms, i.e., chronic fatigue, to balance hormones, aid to weight
    loss. I took it sporadically and it didn't seem to help for any of
    the above reasons. Was your wife taking it daily? How many/day? Is she
    still noticing a difference as mentioned in your note?

    If it's working well for others, then I'll it again on a regimented
    basis.

    Thanks for your information.

900.2She lost about 7" and 4 Lbs with a lot of EnergyPOLAR::TURNERWWed Nov 29 1995 09:3735
    Hi Geri;

    My wife was only on the trial study for 8 weeks. During that time she
    lost about 4 lbs. and about 7 inches. She also noticed a significant
    increase in her energy and a feeling of warmth, something like having
    done a work out without the effort. The trial formulae that she took
    was #2, and she was curious about the results from the #3 test group.
    The actual Youthinol still has not been released yet so she is waiting
    to get back on the stuff. What she was taking however was not the pure
    DHEA but rather an analog (Estradiol with some enhancements specific to
    weight control).

    Your question about how much to take is also answered in the article in
    Health magazine Nov/Dec 95, where they describe people taking the real
    DHEA as regular as prayer. To me this makes sense. My wife was taking 3
    capsules 20 min. before breakfast, 3, 20 min. before lunch, and 2,
    20min. before supper, to get the effects that she noticed. This sounds
    like a lot but it's not like taking pills, the context is more like
    taking herbs or vitamins.

    If taking DHEA is anything like the pycnogenol vitamins that we take, then
    the routine of building up the bodies levels has to be kept up so that
    the body doesen't get a chance to flush it out of the system along
    with any of the benifits.

    There has been a lot of research on this subject and I'll list some of
    the biblio notes later. If you are lucky enough to have access to the
    real DHEA then you should talk with your doctor and set up a routine
    tailored to your exact situation.

    Hope this has helped a bit.

    Cheers    Walt.
