894.1 | Chromium P chewing gum | SUBSYS::HOUBRE | | Mon Aug 14 1995 19:43 | 12 |
| Hi,
Thanks for the info.
But, what is your interpretation of this article?
I saw an infomertial regarding chewing gum with Chromium Picolinate and
it was suppose to help you lose weight.
Did anyone else see this, staring the mother from the Brady bunch, I can't
think of her name.

894.3 | LACK OF APPETITE TOO? | MKOTS1::BARROWS | | Tue Aug 22 1995 21:14 | 16 |
| I've just begun using the Chromium Picolinate at the suggestion of the
RN at my doctor's office. It's supposed to turn fat cells into energy
and so forth. Thus far, without really trying, I've had a weight loss
of 12 pounds over the last three week period. It may not be the only
cause, but certainly contributed.
I've noticed a dramatic 'lack of appetite' as well. No matter what
vitamins we're taking, we still need to eat right.
I was also advised, to take other vitamins as an aide to dealing with
side affects of a drug I'm being given once a month for the next three
months. Vitamin E for hot flashes, L-Lysine for treatment and
prevention of cold sores (in my case, sun blisters), Potassium for
muscle cramps and the Chromium Picolinate.

894.4 | Where can you buy... | POWDML::A_WHITE | | Mon Aug 28 1995 14:39 | 6 |
| Could you tell me where you got the Chromium Picolinate? I've been
looking in health stores such as GNC and they don't have it. I am also
looking for a product called Herbal Energizer which has the same
ingredient. I would appreciate any suggestions....thanks.

| I just got a (I think 500 caplets) large container at BJ's and it is
pure chromium picolinate. It was fairly reasonable compare to what I
have seen it selling for at Osco's, CVS, etc.

| There were several brands. On one of them, if you ,bought two bottles,
the second was half price. Same for the L-Carnatine, which is recommended
taking if you take Chromium Picolinate (for effectiveness; L-C at night,
CP before breakfast and exercise).

| Hi,
Can someone explain the first note to me? Why would anyone
want to take anything that alters chromosomes? Can you take this
if your pregnant?
Thanks,

894.9 | Answer to the Question in .7 | POLAR::TURNERW | | Fri Nov 10 1995 11:29 | 31 |
| I am sure glad someone asked the question in .7. One possibilty is that
CrPic is inexpensive and affordable. The other is that it is available
in retail stores. A lot of the new technology stuff is only available
from a secret legion of direct sales distributors. A bit inconvenient
when you want to try something.
The original article that was presented to me did concern me a bit. My
background at the National Research Council, allowed me to pull a
favour and find the original article (what I was given was only the
title sheet). What I found out was that it was not a full article but
rather an abstract of the annual meeting of the Federation of American
Societies or Experimental Biology. I also toned down the wording of the
abstract. The meetings were held in Atlanta Georgia from April 9-13
1995. The actual reference was also wrong and should read March 9,1995
Vol.9 num 3 ( I can't figure out how to edit a note once submitted).
The paper in question was scheduled to be presented on Tuesday A.M. and
was paper #2616. Additionally,6 other papers which supported Cr as a
supplement were scheduled for discussion.
The people who supplied the original information apparently use a more
expensive Cr, the Cloride, and Poly Nicotinate versions, mostly as
potentiators for the Citrate HCA that they use as a weight control
supplement. They have since expanded to a DHEA analog with Estradiol.
As for whether CrPic is safe during pregnancy, I don't know. Best to
ask a doctor.
Hope this has helped a bit.
Cheers Walt.

894.10 | How long do they take to work ? | KERNEL::ROSE | | Thu Nov 30 1995 22:24 | 26 |
|
Hi,
I just bought some Chromium Picolinate in the health food shop - I've
been taking them for three days now and so far I haven't noticed any
loss of appetite or loss of craving for sweet things (chocolate,
cookies, etc) and I was expecting to lose that craving. These capsules
are to be taken once daily and I wonder if it takes a few days for them
to work ? I'd really like to lose my craving for sugary foods as they
are so high in calories and if I could lose some of my appetite that
would be even better.
I go to the gym three times per week to workout and focus mainly on the
C.V. machines (Stepper, Jogger, Rowing machine) just to help keep the
weight off as I'm within 3 or 4 pounds of my target weight (where I
feel comfortable in my 32" waist jeans) so it's not like I really want
to lose a lot of weight ! Sorry, I've rambled away from what I meant to
write !
So, please can someone tell me whether the Chromium Picolinate takes a
few days to build up in the system before it starts to work or should
it be within a few hours of taking one of the pills ?
Thanks
Trevor
