871.1 | Wouldn't work for me... | BPSOF::NEWBERG | | Wed Oct 26 1994 14:38 | 24 |
| Donna,
I don't know these products, but I have an opinion (don't I always?!?!)
My guess is that people who want to lose weight don't have a problem
with appetite, but food itself. Most overeating is not done out of
hunger, although raging hunger can begin the process of overeating.
Remember when we were kids and they told us to eat slowly and chew our
food a zillion times? That is supposed to allow the brain and the
stomach to catch up to each other. Let's say that instead of a pill, we
had several small meals throughout the day which had enough complex
carbos to keep us from getting a raging hunger. Wouldn't that work as
well?
I know that in my own case overeating has little to do with actually
being hungry. I'll bet that if I took one of those pills and 20 minutes
later someone left me a steaming slice of pizza that was leftover from
a party, I'd grab for it without considering my hunger. I couldn't
imagine looking at it and saying "gee, I wish I had an appetite right
now"!
But, that's just me ;^)

| Right after I posted that last reply, someone was walking around with a
tray of leftover sandwiches offering them around. Now, mind you,
Hungarian sandwiches are usually pretty bad. These were sliced
pepperoni on thick bread which had first been smeared with lard. Some
days, if you're hungry enough you'll actually eat one. Thankfully,
today was not one of those days. And the fact that I was just reading
this conference was the best reminder!

Mind you, I've never tried herb tablets or UltraSlim-Whatever or even
weight watchers, nor have I ever had the temptation to, but I concur
with .-2 about eating more smaller meals with adequate complex carbos.
This keeps your insulin levels relatively steady and avoids the trap of
having too much insulin in your bloodstream, followed by a rapid
depletion of blood sugar, followed by craving more sugar, eating more
simple sugars to get energy back, etc., etc.
Eating 5 or 6 meals a day and gallon of water (not counting coffee or
milk or juice) will give you a remarkable degree of control over your
appetite and over your energy levels. And it costs no additional $.

| Thanks. Logically in my head I know that taking a little magic pill
won't help me in the long run. I'm going to have to deal with the food
on my own. Actually, I've already started doing that. I was looking
at a herb book of mine, and remembered seeing some herb pills in the
health store a few months ago. Is the fact that they are herbs better
than the other junk thats on the market? Then again, if it makes your
appitite go away, to me thats just cutting way down on your food, which
I can do on my own.

| .3 Yes, I tend to agree with you the more I think about it. I'm
currently drinking tons of water, and small healthy snacks throughout
the day, plus exercising. Its alot cheaper than $30 for a months
supplies of pills!

871.6 | Watching my Weight | ALFHUB::DAVIS | | Wed Nov 02 1994 15:12 | 20 |

I just happen to be reading this note today... The first of last year I
was a whopping 185. I was desperate to lose weight. I had tried
weight watchers, slim fast, Jenny Craig, quick weight loss to name
a few. I would lose the weight but as soon as I discontinued the
product I gained the weight back and more. Since I have no will power
I visited the GNC at the mall. I purchased two products. Both products
were ALL NATURAL and I felt good while using them. The products gave
me the will power I needed to lose weight, they supressed my appetite
and when I did eat it was baked fish, chicken, lots of veggies,
fruits, and lots of water. I would not have been able to do this on my
own I know I tried it. After 20 months I am still a size 6 and weighing
130pds. I have a picture of myself when I was 185 posted on my
refigerator just to remind me of how important it is to stay on track
and watch what I eat.

| What were the pills you obtained at GNC???? I too have tried
Jenny Craig and such...only to regain the weight and more once
I finished.
Would appreciate knowing what these suppressants were? Were they
the Cybernetics???
Thanks,

| Yes, please let us know which ones you used. I too have tried many
different diets only to re-gain. I think I do better when I take
a suppressant....its probably a mental thing. I also set my clock back
15 min so I feel like I slept later!! Hey, I know in my head what
time it really is but it still helps when I set the clock up!! I think
I react the same way with suppressants. They probably arn't really
doing anything, but I feel like they are, so I act accordingly.
Thanks,
Renee

871.10 | You can try these... | BPSOF::NEWBERG | | Fri Nov 04 1994 08:28 | 35 |
| Donna,
I had bought a thermogenic combo at GNC last time I was in the US. It
gives me a small energy boost and seems to be a mild appetite
suppressent, but I bought it for the energy boost. It's called Diet
Maxx and I think it was about $15 for 100 tablets. My weight has been
relatively stable around my goal weight (give or take a few # when
visitors come over ;^)) for the time I have been taking them. Of
course, I have also been careful to make wise food choices, eat
regularly and get regular exercise. And believe me, those things are
not easy to do in this country, especially with this job!
There's no secret to success, it's all a balance of those things that
gets easier the longer you make it a part of your daily life. The one
thing I learned is that energy begets energy. The more you do
physically, the more energy you have which makes things like wise food
choices easier. It's very easy to make bad choices when you're
exhausted.
Last month I had to give a training course to customers. I had never
developed a course nor had I done formal training. I worked for weeks
on this course and delivered it. The last day of the course I was so
exhausted all I wanted to do was go home and sleep. Instead, I went
home and put on one of my exercise videos and I felt wonderful! And for
dinner I had a plate of vegetables to celebrate my success.
The real secret is in making it your highest priority. Once you've done
that, these or any other tablet only assist you in sticking with it.
See your doctor, try a bottle, focus on your goals and let us know how
it works out! We're all interested in success and would love to hear
more ideas and healthy success stories.
We're with you!

871.11 | The bottle of Pills | ODIXIE::DAVIS | | Fri Nov 04 1994 18:47 | 16 |
|
The pills I purchased were call Diet Now!!! again they were all
natural. They suppressed my appetite. I also purchased a dieter's
tea that I used to clense my system twice a month. It too is all
natural.
What I have learned that before starting a diet is is good to clean
your system out. Some diets offer foods that have the right chemicals
in them to cause this to happen. My problem was that most diets start
off with steak, which I do not digest well at all (steak seems to stick
to my insides). Anyway be careful with the tea. If you steep it to
long you will experience bad cramping. The pills are $12.99 a bottle.
Let me know if you need more info.

871.13 | What's with this steak thing? | BPSOF::NEWBERG | | Mon Nov 07 1994 16:31 | 14 |
| Re. -11
Carol mentioned that a lot of these system cleansing diets begin with
steak. Does anybody have any idea why that would be?
It's just a coincidence, but I was talking to my secretary about this
today. She wanted to slim off a couple of pounds to fit into a dress
for the weekend. I mentioned that 4 day diet, but she declined because
she doesn't eat red meat. Would anyone have any idea why the red meat
is in this diet and would it work with only white meat or fish? Also, I
tossed out my copy of it about 4 years ago and I couldn't remember past
the first two days.

| I have used appetite surppressents but they were not herbal.
However, they did work and I lost a few stone. They too
gave you an energy boost - sometimes too much!!
As far as being able to eat whilst on them - no way. It
is impossible you see food and feel sick. There are after
affects with these though. Sometimes they can make you bad
tempered and on edge alot of the time.
Has anyone tried hypnotherpy??
