856.1 | But IMO, aerobics and weight training are key | JUPITR::KAGNO | | Tue May 24 1994 19:42 | 26 |
| I have heard of that cream for cellulite (read about it in several
health and fitness related magazines). I think it is derived from an
ingredient in asthma(?) medication and is supposed to work on the
thighs only, not stomach and upper body fat. Women participating in
studies lost about an inch of fat off each thigh after an 8(?) week
period.
As far as chromium picolinate is concerned, it is being touted as a fat
burner, but in reality, it is supposed to help curb sugar cravings and
serve as a co-factor for insulin. I take it as a dietary supplement in
addition to an amino acid called L-carnitine, which I feel has helped me
lose about 5 pounds almost effortlessly. Of course one must follow a low
fat diet and exercise program in addition to taking these pills, but
for me, I have noticed a significant difference since adding the
L-carnitine (2, 250 miligram pills taken before bedtime) back in April.
I say this because last week and over the weekend I indulged in lots of
cheeses and chocolate and was down almost two pounds yesterday, which
was surprising. I haven't missed a night of taking the L-carnitine
since buying the pills and really think they are working. They are
supposed to help convert stored fat into energy.
Anyway, this new cream is supposed to be the latest technology in fat
burning. Too bad my extra bodyfat doesn't reside in my thighs! :^)

856.2 | question on chromium | GRANMA::JBOBB | Janet Bobb dtn:339-5755 | Wed May 25 1994 19:55 | 14 |
| I have a side question on Chromium (sp?) - I've recently heard several
pitches for it from various vitamin suppliment companies and I want to
know more about it before adding any suppliment to my body. I have an
old vitamin/nutrition book (late 1970's) that only gives passing
reference to chromium.
Are there any guidelines now about recommended daily amounts and
possible side affects? Is it something that the body will get rid of if
there is too much or does it stay with you? Any info or pointers to
info would be appreciated!
thanks!

| I'm not certain of side affects (I've had none), and I am taking only
the minimum recommended dosage which is 200 micrograms. I remember the
article I read stating even 400 micrograms (for a woman) is okay, but
anything above and beyond that is not recommended.
Chromium is found in certain fruits and vegetables (exactly which
escapes me at the moment) but according to the article we usually don't
consume nearly enough, hence the supplements.

| The news in Texas did a story about the thigh cream a month or so ago.
The stuff works, but its expensive and you have to take it the rest of
your life. No thanks!

| re: 856 HERBALIFE
I tried the HERBALIFE THERMOGETICS product, which did NOT work for me
in particular and the representatives are still playing games in
issuing me a refund. So much for the guarantee!! I am so tired of
spending money on weight-control products that don't work and it is
isn't easy making the company back-up their guarantee.
Still trying to lose weight and frustrated.....
