Has anyone heard of this diet?
Day one: eat only fruits (no bananas)
Day two: eat only vegetables
day three: fruits and vegetables
day four: as may as 8 bananas and 8 glasses of skim milk
....it goes on to day seven
It also has a TJ miracle soup that consists of onions, carrots,
cabbage and tomatoes. You can eat this all day, any day, any time.
They say you can lose 10 - 17 pounds. I know that that much weight
lost in a week in not good BUT I'll try anything to break the plateau
I'm on....need to lose twenty pounds.
Day four could be a killer! Is that much milk and bananas good for
you??
Thanks for any input

I think it might have been called the "Dave Maynard" diet at one time.
I probably have a copy at home -- there may even be one in this file.

I would like to try this. What does day five, six and seven consist
of? I recently lost 25 pounds. I have changed my way of eating. The
nice thing about the weight lost is that I did it on my own so I 'm not
out of alot of money. It's been rough. I need to loss 15 more and
this would do it. If for some reason you can't post it here, can you
send me mail to Carol Davis @alf. I would truly appreciate it. I
already went to the cafateria and had my first bowl of fruit. There
will be another for lunch and another for dinner. I hope I survive the
fourth day with all those bananas!!! Thanks much.

Thanks for the pointer.....I started this diet yesterday. Fruit day
was OK and this morning I had a yam for breakfast. I made the soup and
it really is good. I'm going to try and stick to it for the seven
days. I'm hoping that this will give me the kick start I need to lose
this annoying 20 pounds. I have also been walking with Richard
Simmons...drinking lots of water (about 72oz a day). I'll keep that up
even after the 7th day! If I lose 10 pounds I'd be one happy woman!!

I went on this diet a long time ago and I got really sick. That much
fruit is not good for you. Also being on this for more than a week is
not good either.

| 853.6 | Twice as much gained. | USCTR1::HOUBRE | Fri Apr 15 1994 15:54 | 19 | |
I tried this diet years ago, and even though you don't want to hear
this, I must tell you that you will gain twice as much as you lose,
everyone I know does.
I lost 15 pounds felt great for losing it but your body thinks it was
being starved and grabs on to everything you eat after that. I am sure
you have been told this before, well its true.
A sensible eating plan is the only way to lose weight, it may take
longer, but in the end it works and is much healthier for you, along
with exercise. I am on Weight Watchers, and even though it takes
longer to lose the 10 pounds it is staying off even when I cheat on
weekends.
It is a shame I didn't listen either when people told me, because I
wanted to lose it "NOW".

| 853.7 | I TOTALLY agree with .6 | MSBCS::KELLY | Mon Apr 25 1994 19:31 | 44 | |
re. 6
You are so right. I mean, even if one loses 10 or so pounds,
what exactly was lost?? Fat?? Slim chance (no pun intended!)
I would say water and muscle. And what do we all want to lose??
FAT! And what burns fat?? Muscle, so the last thing we want to lose
is muscle. Like .6 said, our body will think it is starving, so will
store everything as fat. I have been on so many diets...crash
diets and programs like Jenny Craig, Nutri-System, etc...(have spent
literally thousands of dollars on that crap!!) So, finally, after
I dieted myself up to the highest weight ever, well, I finally
decided to accept the fact that diets do NOT work. It wasn't
easy accepting that, believe me.., and even now, when I read about
a new diet that sounds like it might work, I have to snap myself
back to my senses. Because everyone wants to think that "Maybe
THIS is the diet that will really work". It's almost like giving up
on dieting is giving up trying...but in reality, it is just the
opposite. I now know that the only way I will get to and stay at a
normal weight is to eat the right foods (plenty too!! no scrimping...
but of course, the foods have to be the right kinds of foods - low-fat),
and exercising. I started exercising consistenly last April,
have been trying to cut down on fats a bit, but have finally stopped
dieting after about 15 years...and I lost 25 lbs.! Of FAT!! I still
have a ways to go (maybe another 25 lbs or so)...but at least I am
not obsessed with the dieting crap anymore...I am much more
realistic about things now. thank God....
Anyway, dieting and crash dieting will work...TEMPORARILY...but
it will only screw up your system more...slow down your metabolism
even more, and just make it that much harder to lose weight (fat),
and you'll most likely gain all the weight back plus more.
I don't claim to be an expert on this, but after so many years of
dieting, I have learned a lot. Also, I have a very close friend
who is an eating disorders counselor, and I have learned so much
from her. Dieting does not work. We all need to re-learn how
to listen to our bodies and feed them what they need. No deprivation,
no starving...I still have a lot to learn on this, but at least
I have FINALLY gotten to the point that I will NEVER diet again...
Exercise, for me, is the key...
Good luck, everyone....

re .7
Sounds like Covert Bailey got to you, and not a minute too soon!
Congratulations. The key to fat loss is metabolism and one of the best
ways to increase metabolism is exercise, not dieting. I've also been
taking a supplement that indeed has helped increased my metabolism and
along with exercise has helped me lose 15 + lbs of FAT, not muscle. If
you're interested in learning more you can contact me offline at
AKOCOA::MARSCHALL.
Good luck,
John
