In a recent low-calorie (sorry the name currently eludes me) magazine there was an article on different software packages on the market for managing recipes, nutrition and exercise. Right now I actually own 3 of those packages. However, I find that they are not really meeting my needs in how I would like to manage my recipes and meal planning. My questions are: 1) Is anyone out there using any software packages (either on the market or home grown) to manage recipes, nutrition, exercise and meal planning? 2) If yes, what ones and what do you like or dislike? 3) Finally, have you heard of any programs that do this? If so what? Thanks, nancy

I believe the magazine in question was Cooking Light - they had a review (sort of) recently on recipe and nutrition management software. Can't help you with your question though; I can't remember the name of the software I used but it was geared more towards nutrition than cooking, which is the purpose I wanted it for (entering, storing, and retrieving recipes easily, calculating nutritional values etc), and it was very difficult to use for those purposes. If I actually owned a computer I'd probably be looking at this sitaution more carefully. :-) D!

I have a software that I use called The Diet Balancer(R) from Nutridata Software. I like it. You can use it to enter your own recipes to calculate nutritional information. It's very handy. The 800 number to call Nutridata is 1-800-922-2988. Regards, Fran

The Healthy Choice web page, http://www.healthychoice.com, has a pointer to a program called Life Form. A free demo is available. The program allows you to track a wide variety of nutrition/exercise/medical information. Over the past month, it has made it easy to detect trouble spots. Their food database is enormous with data on most of the foods that I eat (particularly healthy choice stuff). The demo doesn't run very long, but the retail version was available locally for less than the amount they ask for on the web. Greg |
