807.0. "Spicer's" by VMSDEV::HALLYB (Fish have no concept of fire) Tue Jun 01 1993 18:49

I've scanned keywords and directories and not found any mention of
Spicer's (R) brand "Hunger Crunchers". Has anybody tried these?

These are wheat-based snacks that serve to fill you up; real bulk
rather than chemical appetite suppressants. They come in bags maybe 4
by 6 inches that you buy in a grocery store. Several flavors (cheddar,
sour cream, barbecue, chocolate...). Each bag is 150 calories, 6g. of
protein, 6g. of fat (0 cholesterol), 9g. of dietary fiber.

The back of the package says they "... are totally 100% All Natural
REAL FOOD with NO artificial ingredients. Hunger Crunchers (TM) snacks
help create a feeling of fullness so you can comfortably and naturally
satisfy hunger ...". Plus all kinds of testimonials by experimenters.

I've tried them and find they work moderately well. They DO help fill
me up but of course don't satisfy my craving for, say, a steak. They
taste OK to me, but my wife thinks they taste like Soylent Green, so
that's clearly a matter of preference.

I was specifically wondering if somebody knew of a Southern NH source
that sells the stuff in quantity. At 2 bags a day one quickly runs
thru a store's supply of any particular flavor.

6g of fat and 6g carbo? That's about 70%. No thanks. what is the
advantage of these snacks over, say, popcorn, pretzels or fruit, or
some low fat high fiber snack? Sounds like a gimmick to me.

RE: -1, that should be the MOST of his worries with a wife who KNOWS
what Soylent Green tastes like, or am I the only one who remembers that
    awful movie???
