766.1 | VERY SOON!!! | SOLVIT::HUBBARD | | Wed Sep 16 1992 16:13 | 14 |
| Amazing!! I was just thinking the same thing. I'm happy with the
Jenny Craig program (3rd week). I went through a long weekend with
barbeques, PMS and water weight gain (first two weeks), thrilled that I
didn't gain.
This week, I've really stuck to the program, walked, Nordictrack, biked
(20miles), weights (light). I can tell today, I've lost inches because
of the outfit I have on. But, I'm hoping that when I weigh in Friday
there are also pounds going with the inches.
Soon, I'm sure so don't give up!!! We're just beginning!!!

| Thanks for the encouragement. I sometimes feel like I'm out here by
myself. The weightloss notes files (including Progress and Eating
Disorders) really help me when I have questions, concerns, or am really
down. I'll keep on doing the things I'm doing, and I'm sure the weight
will come off soon.
I know people around me care about what I'm doing, but sometimes it
seems like they don't, and only care about their problems. ....
Hmm. I shouldn't depend on others opinions of me. I'm still working
out my emotions on things, but thank heavens I'm not letting it disrupt
my weight loss program.

766.3 | I'll trade my one-mile walk for your two-mile one! | DPDMAI::POGAR | Resident Movie Critic & Costner Fan | Wed Sep 16 1992 17:00 | 31 |
| Donna -
I'm at the same place as you, only my problem is weight, not inches.
Although I've only been on a "program" for 11 days now, I've lost 7.5
pounds. But I can't feel a difference in my clothes just yet.
I started walking, and with my asthma, hay fever, allergies and high
blood pressure, I'm exhausted after only a couple of minutes.
I had a treadmill stress test yesterday, and reached 90% of my maximum
heart rate within about 30 seconds of walking on the treadmill.
Translated, that means that I am NOT burning fat when I am walking at
that rate. I have to slow down, but it seems like I'm already going too
slow. It's going to take a lot of trials and errors before I find my
target heart rate - where I'm burning fat, and not just walking.
Looks like you've reached the level of "cardiovascular fitness" that
allows you to burn fat (meaning "inches") when you're walking.
Therefore, you're probably building up muscle as well, which weighs
more than fat.
I wouldn't worry about it. You're doing great, and I commend you for
sticking to your walking program in this *wonderful* heat in Dallas. I
would love to be able to walk even ONE mile in 12 minutes. Right now,
it's taking me every bit of 15-18 minutes just for one mile.
Keep up the good work!

766.4 | Thanks! | DPDMAI::HUDDLESTON | | Wed Sep 16 1992 17:30 | 7 |
| Thanks Catherine! Your so sweet. I've stopped the walking due to foot
problems. I don't want surgery, so I've stopped. I'm doing a exercise
tape by Kathy Smith called Fat Burning. Its working for me.

766.5 | The other side of the coin... | SALEM::BRUEHL | | Wed Sep 16 1992 19:53 | 11 |
| Donna,
I envy you! I have the opposit problem--I have lost about 8-9
pounds, but very few inches. At first I was just going by how I felt
in my clothes. I went down a size, and that was terrific. I managed
to maintain my weight, so I decided to begin exercising. I do Kathy's
Fat Burning tape, along with a couple others at least 3 times a week.
It has been 6 weeks and my weight and measurements have remained the
same (even through PMS!).
Just like you, I'm wondering what is going on with me. I'm just
going to keep plugging and I have a feeling it will eventually start
coming off. Good luck with your weight loss!

| 1. There may be no difference in weight, but in inches lost because
your exercises may be giving you some muscle which weighs twice
as much as fat.
2. You may be exercising every day, but do you have a balanced eating
schedule? If you are not eating enough food and drinking lots of
water your body may have slowed its metabolism down to adjust to
the body's eating habits.
3. What I have found successful is upping my calories by 500 or so and
my fat intake for one week every three weeks. This confuses my
metabolism, therefore keeping it high and not causing that dreaded
plateau.
Good luck,
B
p.s. Where do you buy the Kathy Smith's fat burning tape please?

| I would like to know about the tape as well. I called all over and the
only tape they have is Kathy Smith "Weight Loss" is this the same.

766.8 | Look at the larger stores | DPDMAI::HUDDLESTON | | Thu Sep 17 1992 23:24 | 11 |
| No, the Weight Loss tape is her new one. She has a whole line of
tapes. I bought mine at Blockbuster Video--I thought that any Movie
store would have it. At least the larger stores. As a store to order
one for you. I've had to do that before.
If you still cant find the tape send me mail (do send/author or send
mail at DPDMAI::Huddleston or Donna Huddleston @DPD -whew!) and I will
try to find out how you could order it.

| Thanks for the info Donna. It didn't occur to me to call a video
store. But my local Blockbuster came through!!!
Now off for the weigh-in (life's anxious moments).
