I am new to noting but my question is about sugar. I want to omit sugar out of my diet and I know the substitute names for sugar. What I don't know is the types of food sugar is hidden in. Obviously anything sweet contains some type of sugar. Can ya'll give me some of your wisdom on staying away from sugar? This is cross posted in E_D. Thanks, Nicole

Our wonderful food manufacturers put sugar in EVERYTHING. I suggest you read labels very carefully.

And recognize all its forms ... Fructose, corn syrup, dextrose, maltodextrose, glucose, sucrose, etc, etc, etc ... The new labelling standards which will be here (in the US) in a year or two should eliminate most of the confusion. Labels will list complex and simple carbohydrates (sugars) separately, instead of lumping them together as they do now.

I'm very excited about the new labelling standards (you can tell I lead a dull life when such things excite me) but...when do they take effect??? D!

A year or two, I don't know if an exact date has been set. Some companies and foods will change their labelling sooner. If I get the chance, I'll find the article on this and post the specifics. |
