729.0. "Diet Plan w/o exercise ?" by TRISTN::SANDY () Wed Mar 18 1992 14:23

	I have never been on a diet before and I'm not familiar with
how much fat/calorie I should be eating per day. However, I'd like to
lose 5-8 lbs. Because of my schedule, taking time to do exercise is
simply out of the question..at least until June/July. That leaves me
with only my diet to help me to reach my goal. What I'd like to know
is: What would one eat for Breadfast/Lunch/Dinner to trim the fat and
lose the weight?

	Thanks for your suggestions....

	Sandy

    LESS!

You should stop by the health services in your facility and see what they can
give you. They usually have nifty tabulated guidelines, along with some
articles on nutrition and diet. And they can usually refer you to other
sources of information or dieticians, etc.

Bear in mind that a permanent change in weight is accomplished by a permanent
change in behavior/life-style/habits/whatever-you-want-to-call-it.  And, no
offense to all the well intentioned folks in this file (myself included), but
I hope no one would consider making such changes based SOLELY on advice from
a notes conference!

Once you have some of the basic info, browse some of the notes that discuss the
millions of books on the subject.

Also, don't be discouraged by the fact that you'll see lots of literature that
says "eat this" and lots that says "avoid this".

    Let me illustrate the word "LESS" by describing what might be an
    ordinary breakfast: a bowl of Kellogs Crunch Nut Cornflakes (with
    milk), three slices of toast. Calories? More than 700 - could be 1000!
    That's 66% of your daily intake requirement!

    Sp "less" means "less" calories, not just less food.

    I have been doing the same as you. I Haven't had much time lately to
    excersice, except for walking every now and then. I have been on a 1200
    calorie a day diet for 3 days. My typical daily intake is this:

    Breakfast: 1 poached or soft boiled egg.
               1 slice dry toast
               orange juice and coffee
               ------------------------
                        calories=241

    Lunch:     good size salad
               3 tbls low cal dressing
               diet coke
               -------------------------
                         calories=80

    Snack:     Piece of fruit
               or Slim fast bar
               -------------------
                         calories=120 for the bar
                                 or
                             60 for fruit

    Supper: 1 boneless chick. breast or other meat, with trimmed fat and
                 skinless
               veggies( usually broccoli or green beans)
               side of rice (1/2 cup)
               -------------------------------
                         calories=500

    So total calories for the above menue was:roughly 900, depending on
    which snack and which meat you had. that leaves 300 cals left over so I
    usually eat more veggies or fruit through out the day.

    Anyway, I find that for me (120 lbs) to lose weight to get to (110)
    I need 1200 cals a daily to drop 2 pounds a week. Sometimes I can't get
    the whole 1200 calories a day, but as long as I'm not feeling hungry I
    don't worry about reaching the daily requirement.

If you want to try a great change from the same old same old chicken breast w/
no skin, try tandoori chicken. You marinate the skinless chicken in a mix of
low fat yogurt and tandoori paste (from Joyce Chen's or any Indian market) for
8-24 hours. That is, mix it the might before or in the morning before work.
Then put it on a wicked hot grill or under the broiler. The marinade tenderizes
the chicken and leaves it quite moist inside, and the outside turns bright red,
with crispy blackened spots. The marinade virtually cooks off, leaving no extra
calories. Depending on the paste to yogurt ratio, you can make it quite spicy,
or just mildly spiced. WONDERFUL stuff... but don't get the paste on your
clothes... unless they are red already!
