675.0. "Patterns of weight loss" by TLE::DBANG::carroll (Hakuna Matata) Wed Jul 03 1991 19:56
Alright, someone needs to say something, and this is something I have
been wondering about, so...
I weigh myself every morning before my shower. (yeah, yeah, I know, no
lectures on how Scales are Evil - I gotta allow myself some indulgences.)
I have found over the last 6 weeks that I have been on Nutri/system that
my weight loss comes in spurts, rather than a steady decline, as I
expected. That is, if I were to lose 3 pounds in a week, I would expect
that I would go down a little under a half pound a day; instead what
happens is that my weight will be constant for 5 or 6 days, drop 3 pounds
overnight, and then remain constant again, or maybe even go up a half
pound or a pound.
what's the story here? Not that I really mind, since I am still going
down, one way or another, but I can't figure out what's happening...

| I see this too.
It's my belief that fluid retention is the key here. As you lose body
mass, there appear to be points at which you shed fluid and then retain
it until the next point is reached.
