659.0. ""SUGAR WITHDRAWAL..."" by BUFFER::WESTON () Tue Apr 02 1991 20:23

    Hello.....

I would like some helpful hints, for lack of a better thought.

I will be joining Jenny Craig soon, Tax refun should be in and I'll be
joining then. I replyed to the NOTE 527 "JUST SOME THOUGHT". I had a
game plan then to just cut down. Been through this game a million
    times.

"Been on several diets" <this seems the statement of the over-weight.

I need the support of a counselor -- Like so many comments in the other
notes -- I have read and gone to diet places to make sure what is for
me, and I've decided on Jenny Craig.

The fear I have is always of failing and the withdrawal of SUGAR is the
hardest on me. Through months of hard stress, I have "woofed" down
bags of chocolate. Substitude any time of sugar when I can't get my
hands on it. I drink coffee and chocolate together (yummy....) here at
work... Even though it's yummy, I'm sick and tired of it.

What I'd like to hear is of a similar experience at the beginning of a
diet, to go through the sugar withdrawal. I know it will take sometime
and what did or are you doing to help yourself MAKE IT THROUGH?!?!?

    Thank you........

    I'm-a-gettin-ready!

659.1Carbs are Sugar in disguise!CECV03::AZARIANTue Apr 02 1991 20:5314
The ratio of fat/protein/carbs in Jenny Craig is so well managed that
your body shouldnt crave "sugar" because it has more carbs than you
could imagine (and your body uses carbs like sugar but they dont burn
like a flash.... just a long burn) It's a wonderful program. I just
answered someone else in a prior note (maybe 2 back from here) They
have snack bars, etc... it really works the food is great the support
is great... BUT DONT SKIP THEIR MEETINGS! Everyone needs to share
success. I lost 8 lbs first week and 16 during the first 6 weeks. It
    was absolutely painless.

I'm really looking forward to it as well as scared to fail. I look
forward to my personal counselor and I will attend ALL meetings!

Good luck. I mean it. I have been going to JC for about 9 weeks and
have lost 13 1/4 lbs. I know that doesn't sound like a great
weightloss, but I have an underactive thyroid that I take medication
for and I know that I don't lose weight easily. I usually try to do
my "Jane Fonda Low Impact" tape 3 times a week and walk when I can.

I started out on the "regular" plan and wasn't losing fast and the
counselor wanted to know if I would like to try the vegetarian diet so
see if it would make a difference. It did and I like it. I don't miss
the meat and the cost is about $45 dollars a week which is a lot less
expensive. I wanted people to know that it can be done cheaper if you
don't mind the "no meat" part of it.

Most all the meals are good. I did enjoy their chicken entrees. I
think the plan is very good. I enjoy the Topic classes very much
because I usually learn something "new".

I think like all diets you can get discouraged, but the fact that you
have a counselor who also gets your food for the next week plus the $$
investment makes you think first before quitting.

Now that I am losing I have the incentive and will continue to reach
    my GOAL.

I would recommend this plan to anyone so don't get discouraged. A couple
    (2) weeks I remained the same weight as the previous week. I was very
"down" but then I rationalized that I didn't gain and if I continue as
I should I will lose the weight. The next week I lost 3 lbs. which is
the largest amount I have lost at one time.

A lot of the women that I talk to there are losing 2-3 lbs. a week. I
    think this is the norm.

    So, good luck.
