I have been thinking about a new concept in loosing and maintaining weight loss. I have lost hundreds of pounds in my lifetime and gained the same hundred back...the answer appears to be that the loosing isn't as difficult as the maintaining. So I am beginning at the end this time...I want to weigh 145. I am moderately active so I figured that in order to maintain 145 pounds I could consume 2000 calories a day. A little less than 14 calories per pound. I am going to being by measuring and weighing my food at this maintenance level. After 'maintaining' for a given period I will start reducing my calories that I consume daily until I reach 1200 per day, once I reach goal I will start adding calries till I get back to the 2000. Using this theory I will be very aware of my future during the actual dieting and will have already established a maintenance plan. I have never really done maintenance and that could be the reason I keep gaining the weight back. I would like to get together with a bunch of folks that need to loose approximately 20 pounds. We can think about this concept and develop individual eating plans and go at it. I work in Acton and live in Clinton...if you are interested send me mail. I have twenty pounds to loose, and figure that is about the right amount for this idea.

Joyce, Your plan sounds very good! The Nautilus diet does something similar, in that you start out with (I think) 1400 calories for 2 weeks, go down to 1300 for two weeks, 1200 for 2 weeks, then start again. The premise is that by changing your intake level on a regular basis, your body does not adjust to the lower intake and begin to learn how to survive on fewer calories. It sort of reminds me of interval training! Best of luck! Karen

I have a new concept also. It is very simple. Eat less and exercise more. Greg
