567.1 | I'd handle it this way (maybe...) | CSC32::WILCOX | Back in the High Life, Again | Fri Mar 09 1990 12:19 | 7 |
| Donna, ask yourself if those cookies have a taste that's worth
the extra weight and the guilt. I think the answer will be no.
If you really, really want one, determine if you can REALLY
handle one. If so, have it, if not, don't. BUT if you really
want sugar, and think you'll die without, promise yourself
to bake something wonderful or go get one Mrs. Field's cookies.

| Hi Donna,
I ordered Girl Scout cookies before I joined WW. Well, my friend
that attends meetings with me, bought the cookies to me at last
weeks meeting. When I found out she gained three pounds this week,
I asked 'Why'. Her reply was, 'I ate one box of cookies'. I plan
on thanking her this week at meeting. Everytime I go to take a
couple of cookies, I think of her three pound gain and I put the
cookies down.
I hope this helps somewhat!!

567.3 | capture that thought! | POWDML::LENSCHOW | | Fri Mar 09 1990 16:23 | 7 |
| Hi Beverly,
That made my day. Thanks. I also joined watchers and the thought will
help me to hold on until the next on-program snack/meal.
Have a nice weekend.
Thanks to all for the replies.

| I keep asking myself if I really *need* it. I mean, I know I want it,
but do I need it. It seems to work, but then I've had superstrength
since I started on my plan.
I was craving crisp crust double cheese and olives pizza this weekend,
but instead I went home and made up a macaroni cheese (double macaroni)
WW dish and had a bowl of grapes.
My major problem at the moment is how to use up all my extra energy.
My fellow workmates are about to scream at me. I can't work out where
to find time to do any more exercise tho, but obviously need to. Its
either that or paint our harbour bridge! (^'
We also have here (and it is American) Honey Hills yoghurt which is
non-fat and very very low in sugar. Comes in about 40 flavours and I
can't survive if I miss my does of this. I don't drink milk and WW
have given it their blessing, so I have a helping of this every day.
Also haven't craved icecream since I started.

567.5 | What's the count? | CSC32::WILCOX | Back in the High Life, Again | Mon Mar 12 1990 08:40 | 10 |
| Dale, what is the exchange info for this particular yogurt? I've
been under the assumption that PLAIN or WW-only yougurt are
the only ones WW "blesses". I'd be interested in knowing how I
can count this because I like yogurt, but don't want to mess with
nutrasweet right now.
Thanks,
Liz

| Let me clarify my last reply. I thought WW would only allow "other"
brands to be counted as optional.

567.7 | here success-there success-everywhere lil success | POWDML::LENSCHOW | | Mon Mar 12 1990 11:59 | 11 |
| Hi All,
Some success dodging the cookies. Have found that substituting on
program desserts (like alba chocolate shake and having it in a fancy
goblet) helps the sugar craving. Also when my husband has his Ben and
Jerry's ice cream I tried having plain yogurt flavored with vanilla and
artificial sweetener (put in freezer to simulate frozen yogurt).
Satisfies. Another helpful thing is to try and wait 10 minutes when
something frustrating happens and the urge to eat strikes as a defense.

Maryellen (WW A Work leader at LKG) says that WW allows you to use a
Yoplait Light 90 and count it as a milk.

| In Oz they call themselves California Yoghurt (^' but in the States
they are Honey Hills. I have the address' of them in Colorado and
Boston. Apparently they are all over California.
WW here have approved it as milk exchange - the non-fat that is. Even
the low fat is 96% fat free. So an 8oz cup is equivalent to the 2 cups
of skim milk. Without my fix of that I'd be a gonna!! (^'
They also make yoghurt cookies, but I'm not game to go near them. I'm
very picky about cookies, and not having had any for 4 months can't see
the point now...

567.10 | Low-fat might not mean "not very much fat" | CALLME::MR_TOPAZ | | Tue Mar 13 1990 08:13 | 13 |
| It's useful to understand the fat content of even low-fat yogurt.
I don't know how much an 8oz cup weighs (8oz of volume do *not*
necessarily equal 8oz of weight), but let's assume that it does
indeed weigh 8oz, or 225 grams.
If the low-fat yogurt is 96% fat-free, then it has 4% fat content
(by weight). So, 8oz(225g) of yogurt would have 9 grams of fat---
that can be a significant amount if you are being watchful of your
fat intake. (Some people suggest that you limit fat to 22-30g
per day.)

| That 8oz cup is in volume not weight. But I only have the non-fat.
On the odd occasion that I do have some low-fat, its a squirt on top.
My fat grams a day alternate between 16 and 18. My calories per day
are 1400 so even on a day I have egg or cheese (18) my fat intake is
11.5%. My total protein grams a day are 130g if its chicken and 150 if
its tuna. Maybe once a month I'll make a one egg quiche. About twice
a week I have lowfat hard cheese.

....I almost choked on a chocolate - peanutbutter "Tag Along" Girl
Scout cookie this week. While eating my first AND ONLY one, I read
that one cookie has 6(SIX) grams of fat in it!!
I gave the rest of the box away at work.
