552.0. "ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH THE KITCHEN MATE?" by ESKIMO::BURDETT () Thu Jan 18 1990 09:29

    Is anyone familiar with an appliance called the Kitchen Mate? I
    seen it demonstrated on the Discovery Channel last weekend. It
    certainly seemed like quite the handy tool. One particular feature
    that interested me (and probably many of you) was the machine's ability
    to whip skim milk. The key to this appliance is it's RPM's. The
    Kitchen Mate is small and I compare it to about the size of a Water
    Pick appliance. The women who demonstrated the machine first chilled
    the skim milk (important) and then in a small container she emerged
    the appliance and it does it's RPM thing in about 45 seconds. It's
    amazing the skim milk is actually whipped just like cream! Needless
    to say it's very low in calories. You can add fruit to make a
    delicous fruit whip. It also comes with 5 additional attachments
    that dice, chop, puree etc. You have to send for this and the price
    is $99.00. To me it seems well worth the money. Has any one else
    seen this appliance or something similiar in the stores?
                                                Debbie

552.1Try a generic brand, they work as well.SKIVT::L_BURKECherokee Princess, DTN 266-4584Thu Jan 18 1990 12:5011
    In effect it is a hand held, rechargeable mixer. I bought my sister
    a look alike from KMART for Christmas. I believe it was made by Procter
    Silex (?) and it cost ~$30.00. My brother-in-law tried whipping skim
    milk with it and it worked beautifully! She said a day doesn't go by
    that she doesn't use it.

    But I wouldn't pay $99.00 for the one on TV when you can go down to
    KMART and pay $30.00. Just make sure it has the "bent washer" (my
    name) attachment that they use to whip liquids.

552.2Thanks for your infoESKIMO::BURDETTThu Jan 18 1990 13:425
    Thanks for the info. I'll look into the Proctor Silex. I would
    much prefer a $30.00 purchase to $99.00 one any day. You gave me
    the answer I was seaching for. I'll look around this weekend.

552.3check it outSALEM::ALLEN_DFri Jan 19 1990 09:485
    Anything that is advertised on tv is always higher in price,so it
    is good to check out all the brands to fine the one that is good
    and fits the pocketbook.Good sugestion to all who see anything on
    tv.My two cents.

552.4Blades?CIVIC::WEBERMon Jan 22 1990 11:596
    Does the KMart version have all the same blades as the one advertized
    on TV. I caught part of the ad last night and thought it was a great
    tool.

    Are we talking like a Sunbeam Oscar - electric hand held one arm mixer
    with three blade alternatives??

    If you want thick cream skim milk try freezing evaporated skim milk
    then mixing it till thick.
