549.0. "Getting back on track HELP!!" by GIAMEM::MACKINNON () Tue Jan 16 1990 08:46

HELP!! This past holiday season has really derailed my attempts
at cutting out the fat in my foods. I love the special foods
that are prepared for the holidays. And I made a decision that
I was not going to stop eating them, but I was going to eat less
of them which I did. However, since most of what I ate was made
with high fat products (butter in particular) it has really wreaked
havoc with my body. I find myself craving sweets and fatty foods
(ice cream and chips YUK!!). Mind you I had stopped eating chips
entirely, but can not seem to get away from them. The ice cream
is another story. I have always allowed myself a cup of ice cream
for dinner desert, but I have been eating so much more than a cup
    lately.

Please give me some suggestions to get back on track. I have vowed
not to buy the chips anymore and I think I can succeed at that.
However, I am not going to eliminate the ice cream from my diet.
I want to cut back to a cup again, but it is soooo hard.
It really bothers me cause I was doing really well with cutting
out the fats until the holidays and now I can't seem to get
    back on track again.

I'd suggest you get a good motivating visual.. maybe a book with
lots of good advice that you can settle into reading or a video
with a good work out on it with lots of motivating advice from
    the instructor!

How about buying your ice cream, taking it home and measuring it
out into paper or plastic cups to 1 cup servings.. freeze them
individually and tell yourself that X amount of cups are for X amount
of days.. if you eat up your allowance before you should that is
it until the X number of days pass.

I found in the early days that pouring over slimming magazines,
good motivating books and popping in my exercise video at times
of weakness and 'working out' all helped to get me back on track..

Another thing I found early on was that eating sweets and chocolate
only cause me worse cravings for it.. cutting them out works better
for me than cutting down! I understand you are going to keep your
ice cream but purging out the rest of the sweets and replacing with
nice seasonal fruits or frozen juice bars that you make yourself
    might just help!

If you shop for foods that are low in fat than you will pick out
things that are good for you . If you limit yourself to 2 grams
of fat a day then you will loose weight. You are looking to lose
fat and if you think of it that way and don't measure calories
than you may be better off.Only a thought that might help in this
endever to lose fat that you don't need anyway. There are many different
plans that youu may follow but only one will work for the more times
you diet the body will compinstate for the body weight and you will
not lose as you plan too.Become a low fat shoper and you will become
a low fat comsumer. Also avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners.
    Good health

	2 grams-fat is 18 calories.

Did you really mean 2 grams?

549.4I am going to be slimMCIS1::SULLIVANEileenThu Jan 25 1990 11:0211
I do not want to be obese anymore ! I have come to the conclusion
that if I do not want to be fat I have to stick to program (WW for
me), if I feel myself wanting something that is not on program i
have to make the decision "do I want to be fat or not" if my answere
is no than I walk away from the temptation if it is yes than I know
I am going to fail. After many years of looking for motovation
from books, other people etc, I have decided that it is as simple
as do I want to lose my weight and be thin or do I want to remain
obese. I choose to lose my weight and maintain it and that is what
    I will do.

I am not an expert on grams of fat, calories and all of the such, but
I thnk that wat Allen_D is trying to say is modify the foods you are
eating. For example, if you love broccoli with cheese sauce, decide
to have the broccoli with an ounce of grated cheddar or something that
    is according to WW program.

I have found that when I deny my self totally, once I cheat, I am
uncontrollable for a very long time. The key for me now (others
may think this is blasphemy) is to reward myself with FOOD. You just
have to carefully plan what that reward will be, and try not to deviate
TOO much from the diet. I give myself rewards that are not very high
    in fat and sugar.

If you want ice cream, follow your program and incorporate one of the
diet ice creams into your daily routine. WW provides you with ways to
count their ice creams as fruit, milk and protein or whatever.

The most important thing is to NOT give up. If you slip a day or two
or whatever, don't dwell on it. Pick yourself up and face the next
    challange.

                                                         T-

Another way to add "spice" to your eating is to make use of some of the
inovative products that have just come on the market. Such as:

If you want cheddar cheese on your broccoli, try Molly McButter's
    	cheddar cheese flavor.

Want a baked potatoe with butter and sour cream, again Molly
McButter to the rescue. (Of course there are other butter substitutes
than Molly but I think she is the only one with sour cream and cheddar
    	cheese.)

If your sweet tooth is acting up, try the new "sugar-free" puddings
    	or a weight watcher's desert.

So many options can be found if you look.

    Happy dieting!
