508.0. "A.M. Snack" by MSDOA1::MCMULLIN () Wed Sep 06 1989 12:25

    I need a good lo-cal snack that I can bring to work as it seems like I
    get hungry between breakfast and lunch every day. I'm getting tired of
    fruit and raw veggie's just don't really appeal to me at 10:00 a.m.
    Any suggestions? We have a fridge at work, so anything is possible.

508.1Some of my snacksCOOKIE::WILCOXDatabase Systems/WestWed Sep 06 1989 13:276
Do you like anything like chips? I'm thinking of the WW snacks that are
similar to chips. They come in onion, BBQ, and cheddar flavors. I like
those and the WW peanuts (those take a bit of getting used to). How about
rice cakes with or without anything on them? I also like tomato juice
as a snack.

	Pretzels, nonfat no-sugar yogurt, vegetables or fruits you
    seldom eat, a little of your lunch (maybe a half sandwich),
    etc..

    	What do you like to eat?

508.3MSDOA1::MCMULLINWed Sep 06 1989 15:3312
    I like just about everything. I was on a yogurt kick a while back, but
    I liked the Yoplait 150 calorie yogurt with the fruit on the bottom and
    I can't find it any where, now. Maybe I'll fix me some of sugar free
    pudding or by some of the snacks .1 mentioned. I like those ok. I
    usually bring a hot lunch, so that makes it difficult to eat half of
    it. I ate Raisinettes this morning. Counted them as 1 fruit and 150
    optionals.

    Thanks,

508.4Yoplait and Grape Nuts!INTER::K_GRANGERWed Sep 06 1989 16:078
    I tried something neat today. A raspberry Yoplait Light
    (90 calorie yogurt) with 3/4 ounce of Grape Nuts mixed in
    for crunchy texture. Yum! On Weight Watchers, that's a
    milk and a bread. Expensive (exchange-wise) but worth it.
    I wasn't hungry again for 2.5 hrs.

    Try an ounce or two of dried fruit (like you put in cakes) - they fill
    you up and are low-ish in calories...

    Is dried fruit really low-ish in calories? For some reason I always
    thought they were high, but I don't have a calorie book to verify it.

    Thanks,

508.7Oat Bran Muffins Are Good!RANCHO::MEYERSWed Sep 06 1989 18:3512
    I've been making some oat bran muffins and taking them to work (the
    recipe is on the back of the Quaker Oat Bran box). I also add
    apples and cinnamon to the recipe. Each muffin is only 127 calories
    and quite filling since they are made from oat bran and there's no
    cholesterol in them.

    If you don't like apples and cinnamon you can add some banana,
    pumpkin or whatever fruit you like to the basic recipe to vary their
    taste.

	Dried fruit counts as one fruit exchange per 3/4 ounce (this goes for
	raisins, too; I prefer it to using a Tablespoon).

Hmmmmm, I've never seen this before, is it in one of the WW booklets like
Celebrations.  I like those suckers!

508.11Frookie, anyone????MSDOA::MCMULLINMon Sep 11 1989 13:599
    I found some cookies called "Frookies". They have no sugar in them,
    and no cholesterol. They're sweetened with fruit juice and have 35
    calories per cookie (chocolate chip). I'm going to count 2 cookies as
    a bread exchange. I ate them while ago and they're pretty good, but I
    experienced stomach burning kind of like heart burn after I ate them.
    Hopefully it was just because I hadn't ate for 4 hours.

    They have no sugar in them... They're sweetened with fruit juice

If I recall fruit juice has fructose in it which is a sugar. Certainly,
it's not the good old white refined stuff...

    3/4 cup of non-fat no-sugar yogurt and 1/2 cup of crushed, diced
    or chopped fruit( my favorite is canned unsweetened pinapple). add
    vanilla extract to taste maybe even a packet of Equal.

    1 milk exchange, 1 fruit exchange. makes a large serving so can
    even be split in half.

    enjoy,
    John
