Has anyone read the Hilton Head Metabolism Diet book written by Dr. Peter M. Miller? A friend of mine has read the book and is following the diet with great results. The diet stimulates your ability to burn fat by naturally increasing your metabolic rate. Any comments?

There's a Hilton Head dieter born every minute. There are no miracle cures. There are no miracle diets. There are no miracle foods. This is the real world, not fantasyland. -mike z

The Hilton Head Diet is your basic diet in which you measure your food and you follow their planned menus and you EXCERCISE (sp) at least twice a day. This is what get your metabolism going. It would on any diet. It's high in complex carbo and low fat. Sometimes folks need to hear a different way to tackle the problem. The solution may be the same solution but presented in such a manner to appeal to different folks. my .02 worth Elaine

I don't know about the Hilton Head Diet, but I recently picked up a book titled 'Maximizing Metabolism' by Robert M. Giller, M.D. and Kathy Matthews. These two people also collaborated on a book called 'Medical Makeover'. The _point_ they make, is that two things happen when you diet: 1. Your body gets more 'efficient' and your metabolism lowers. 2. When you _stop_ dieting, that 'efficient' metabolism stays with you. In order to counteract this: Exercise, to keep your metabolism high. In practicality, if you burn 500 _more_ calories a day, you can either increase your intake by 3500 calories a week and stay even in weight, or you can _lose_ one pound of fat (which equals 3500 cals, approx). Since I have more than a passing interest in things dietetic, I will probably pick up the HH book. If anyone expresses an interest, I will review it in this note, so you can see if you'd like it or not. -chris johnson |
