491.0. "Warning: Dieting May Be Hazardous" by ANT::ZARLENGA (radios pumpin' to the way she walked) Tue Aug 08 1989 23:41

This Consumer's Union special just aired on HBO.

I must say I really thought it was done well, and presented
lots of facts, and even a few surprises.

It's very educational, and they also detail some actual cases
of people who got sick from diet pills and other medications that
    contain the appetite suppressant phenylproponalomine(sp?).

Now, for 10 points, which has more calories, a McDonald's Big
Mac, or a McDonald's chef sald with thousand island dressing?

Should think they're about the same.

491.2oops, the Big Mac should be 570, not 590 ...ANT::ZARLENGAradios pumpin' to the way she walkedWed Aug 09 1989 07:4713
.1> Should think they're about the same.

    	Big Mac 590
    	Chef Salad w/ 1000 island dressing	620

There are only 230 in the salad itself, and 390 in the packet
    of salad dressing.

Fat can sneak in when you're not looking.

I always think of that stuff as

                       "Thousand Calorie Dressing"

    - really stops me touching it.

491.4Just use a little of itATSE::BLOCKOh my God, you're from the SIXTIES!!Wed Aug 09 1989 10:539
I dislike diet dressings, so I just use the regular stuff sparingly. I
wouldn't want as much as they put in one of those packets, anyway. If
I'm being careful, it's enough for 3-4 salads. Not great, but if I
don't filch any fries :-), then I'm getting about 1 day's worth of fat
    according to WW (I think).

How about the Garden Salad with the Light Italian Dressing?

    How many calories is that?

Don't McDonalds publish calorie counts in the US? They do in the
UK...but the calorie counts may be different.

Yes, they do, but you have to ask the manager for them, and
they seem to run out all the time.

You can also ask for the address, so you can write them for
the nutritional information, rather than waiting for your local
    McDs to get some more.

Of course, that doesn't help you *now*.

I'm not positive but I believe that the McDonald's Lite Vinagrette
Dressing, which isn't bad tasting at all, has 60 calories and NO
FAT......when I was doing Weight Loss Clinic, they considered it
o.k.......because of the 0 fat content.......

I recommend the Chicken Salad with that Lite dressing....it really
    is great!!! AND NO FAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
