| Virginia, I've heard of a variety of "grapefruit diets" and wonder if
the theory behind drinking it 3 times a day is similar. What most of
the ads say is that it "melts the fat" or something along those lines.
Well, how about trying an experiment, set out a stick of butter and
pour grapefruit juice on it and see if it melts! Afterall, butter is
FAT! Or, go to the butcher and ask for some beef or pork fat and try
the same.
Seriously, you're getting some "fill" from the juice as you would with
anything you drink, also a bit of fiber (but not as much as if you
ate the grapefruit itself), but, you're also getting a rather large
amount of calories. If I remember correctly, the WW exchange is only
1/2 C. = one fruit. I'd rather have the fruit which in this case would
be 1/2 medium grapefruit.
I don't know of any scientific reason for this to help lose weight
but that doesn't mean there isn't one!
Regards,
Liz
