485.0. ""BERRY TRIM"" by WR2FOR::KRANICH_KA () Fri Jul 28 1989 16:32

    I received an advertisment in the mail the other day, as well as
    some of my friends about this new tablet called: "BERRY TRIM".
    I read the whole article, but I'm one of those who is leary of fad
    diets, or pills that say they will help you loose weight. Has anyone
    heard of this diet, or received the advertisment?? It has a picture
    of Geoffrey Scott, who played Mark Jennings on Dynasty, and he goes
    on about how it works!!

    Thanks,

    Kathy

485.1Me, too!!!MSDOA::MCMULLINFri Jul 28 1989 18:1910
    Kathy,

    Several months ago, I also received this ad. Did it look like a
    newspaper ad that someone had torn out and mailed to you? I was
    also leary of it and never ordered it (if my memory is right, I
    think it was pretty expensive?). I would also be interested if
    anyone has tried it and how it worked.

485.2I got the same thing...AUKLET::CORWINSweet Jill Hazel EyesWed Aug 09 1989 15:2712
Virginia,

I got the same ad in the mail that you did; it looked like it was torn out
and said something like "Hi Jill, thought you might be interested in this".
No return address, and a California postmark. To me, it looked like they were
trying to make it out to be a friend sending you something in the mail!

I was pretty annoyed as I scrunched it up and threw it out...why would "they"
think I might be interested in it?

Jill

485.3Diet advice from "friends" in CA ?!INTER::K_GRANGERWed Aug 09 1989 16:018
    AH! I got the same thing about 3 or 4 months ago. There was
    a little handwritten note in one corner (just like Jill's) that started
    with, "Hi Kay." Now that is really weird because only family and
    friends call me Kay. I guessed that it was some funny advertising
    gimmic, but to use Kay... Mysterious!

I got the same thing mailed to me and found it be funny too because
    they spelled my name right (Ronda) rather than Rhonda like those
    who don't know me would. I was wracking my brains out trying to
    figure out who I knew in Santa Ana, CA who would send me this.

485.5And another one...SASE::SOULARDSuspended animation, a state of blissMon Feb 19 1990 15:088
    Wow! - I received one also. But just last week I received another,
    but it wasn't Berry Trim, but similar. From California (post mark)
    no return address and the same note at the top of the page - which
    looked like it was torn out of a newspaper or something. I threw
    it away.

485.6I got one, too!AKOV12::DUGDALEWed Feb 21 1990 10:529
    I got one just like the others described here last summer. It really
    made me furious. What kind of a "friend" sends things aynonomously?

    However, it was one of the last straws in getting me moving on a diet,
    and I am pleased to say that I weigh 34 lbs. less now than I did back
    then.

    I've never written in this file (I'm one of the ones who read only),
    but this topic made me want to put my thoughts down. I also received
    this advertisement from Santa Ana, CA. In the top corner was written
    "Thought this might interest you. It really does work". Since my
    husband does have some relatives near Santa Ana, and his family is
    constantly seeing how many jabs they can get in about my weight, I
    assumed they were the ones who sent it. Although I'm sorry other
    people received it (I found it to be very offensive), I'm glad I now
    know my in-laws weren't the culprits. I owe my husband an apology.

    Does anyone know who sent these? What mailing list did some company
    purchase? (For information on myself, the only weightloss programs I
    have been on is Weight Watchers.) Has anyone else received the same
    thing?

485.8only advertising...DEMING::GARDNERjustme....jacquiWed Feb 21 1990 18:1012

    This is my second time around of receiving this ad made up to
    look like a personalized message from someone who "cares". It
    shows a devious marketing technique. I brought my first one
    in to show my boss and he said he had received one also. Maybe
    I ought to check to see if he has received round two??? ;*)

    I have received this ad also and I'm curious as to how they got
    names for a mailing list since I have never joined a weightloss
    center. I'm just a reader of this file as I'm not overweight but
    am always aware of maintaining my weight and find many interesting
    hints here.

    Ditto. I got one. I don't think they're using weightloss related
    mailing lists. My friends who have never had weight problems received
    this ad too. I would guess they're targeting woman from catalog
    mailing lists or magazine subscription lists. Also - they're using
    "nicknames" when they write their little "personalized" message.
    A friend of mine who always uses "Elizabeth" on mailing addresses
    received her "personalized" message to "Liz".

    I got one of these also and I was going through a period of binging.
     Normally, those pseudo personalized things don't get to me but
    I went nuts trying to figure out who was trying to get in a dig
    about my weight. Glad to know it was all in my mind--but what a
    lousy way to do business. I, too, wondered if some of the large-size
    catalogs I order from "shared" their mailing lists.

    I too received this ad last week in the mail with a personlized
    note on it. But it looks like noone has tried it yet. I am
    considering it and if I do decide to do it I will inform you all
    of the results. Nobody at all has tried it ???????
