I believe that there is not necessarily a huge difference in actual
# of calories. The main difference is in the fat content. Low-fat
frozen yogurt has approx. 2g of fat per 4 oz. serving and about
100 calories. Someone else will have to fill in the soft-serve
ice-cream stats.
As an aside - I have discovered that I LOVE frozen yogurt. And there
are so many interesting flavors - who could resist White Chocolate
Mousse? And everywhere you go (at least here in the Marlboro/Maynard
MA area) there are places which offer frozen yogurt. My latest favorite
is TCBY (The Country's Best Yogurt, formerly This Can't Be Yogurt).
There's a new one in Concord, MA, near the depot...
-Amy.

470.2 | A favorite frozen yogurt of mine | WECARE::BARTLETT | | Thu Jun 22 1989 11:24 | 18 |
| Hi,
I have recently discovered a frozen yogurt that I just LOVE better
than ice cream (and I never thought I'd see the day). I beleive
you can only purchase it at Shaw's but it's Kemp's Frozen Yogurt
and per 3 oz serving there are 80 calories with 1 gm of fat. Not
bad! Ice milk (soft serve) for the most part contains 5-6 gms of
fat approximately 100-120 calories. Ice cream (regular vanilla)
14-15 gms of fat at 230-250 calories. Ice cream 16% fat (rich vanilla)
23-24 gms of fat at 320-350 calories. Frozen Yogurt is definately
the way to go. My favorite Kemp's Frozen Yogurt flavor are Cherry
and Rasberry. They have Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry,
Strawberry-Banana, Peach, and Blueberry flavors. Mmmmmmmmmmm!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you try it!

470.3 | Frozen yogurt | CIVIC::FERRIGNO | | Fri Aug 11 1989 12:18 | 18 |
| There is an article in the New York Times, August 8 which discusses
low-calorie frozen desserts such as yogurts and soft-serves. There
is a chart which gives the calorie content of the products of 16
frozen dessert companies such as Baskin-Robbins, TCBY, Weight
Watchers, etc.
Even within the description of low-calorie, it appears that the
frozen yogurts are about 100 calories per average serving lower
than other low-calorie frozen desserts. There's quite a bit of
discrepency among companies as to the ACTUAL calorie content.
A company did a dietary analysis of the different products. TCBY
was highly rated -- 25 calories/ounce with the average serving of
6 ounces giving a total of between 139 to 178 calories. There is
NO fat in TCBY.
Haagen-Dazs frozen yogurt had an average of 374 calories per serving.
Carvel yogurt came out with 386! Dannon was 392!

Were the serving sizes the same as with TCBY (6oz)?

470.7 | Where do I get TCBY? | TLE::D_CARROLL | On the outside, looking in | Tue Oct 10 1989 16:25 | 6 |
| I have heard such wonderful things about TCBY but I can't find it in
supermarkets. Where can I get it in or around Waltham, MA or Nashua, NH?
Thanks,
D!

| As far as I know, you can't buy TCBY in the supermarkets. It is a chain of
stores. I know that there is one in Concord, MA. You can probably give them
a call to find out where others might be located. Their frozen yogurt sure
is yummy... They do sell it packaged to go, so you can take it home just like
if you bought it in the supermarket.
Donelan's grocery store in Littleton, MA has recently installed a Columbo
frozen yogurt machine... They also have it packaged to go...
