Kathy,
Can you post the location(s) of the "asylum(s)"? This sounds
like a great idea, but I live in NH, and I only exercise if it's
convenient...
Thanks,
Beverly

| I do aerobics at another health club (it's only 10 minutes from
my house). You're right, it does feel like there is a little
more pressure. It ends up working positively for me though.
When I look at how much thinner they look then I do, it makes
me realize that yes, I do need to take off pounds, and I'll
try to eat right today.
The first couple of times I went I felt like everyone was
looking at me. But then I thought to myself maybe they are
looking at me and saying she needs to lose weight, but she's
here trying to do something about it - so good for her!
Anyway, I go four times a week now, and I really enjoy it.

| I used to belong to the Anatomy Asylum in Natck. They went out
of business!! Which club do you belong to. I was under the impression
that the whole chain was sold out.

431.6 | ANATOMY ASYLUM WHERE ARE YOU NOW! | DELNI::SAMRA | | Fri Apr 07 1989 10:10 | 5 |
| I also belonged to the club in Natick. I must say that I agree,
they provided the best overall workout I have EVER had (and believe
me I have been doing this a long time). I would love to know where
they are located now. Any help would be appreciated.

431.7 | | SUPER::HENDRICKS | The only way out is through | Fri Apr 07 1989 14:51 | 15 |
| The only exercise I absolutely love is contra-dancing. I can dance
for 3 hours, with almost no breaks. It's a real aerobic workout!
If you've never been, it's very healing for any of you who have
bad memories of going to dances as a young person and being a
wallflower. Everyone gets asked to dance! As often as they want.
People are often begging people sitting down to stand up and help
fill out a set.
And they teach all the dances at the beginning, and help you walk
through them. They get progressively harder as the evening goes
on, so you drop out and watch (and learn) if it gets too hard.

| re:.4,.5,.6......
I'm sorry to say that I didn't realize that most people reading
this notes file are from the East Coast. I live in California and
they are all over the place here. It's to bad they closed them
down because it sounds as if some of you really enjoyed it. Maybe
if you wrote to Richard personally, and enough interest was generated
he might think about opening another one back up??
re:.3.....I don't think as a woman that I'm trying to be macho by
excercising!! It makes me feel like I have really done something,
and making positive steps forward to get my weight and body under
control without the added stress of feeling like I have to show-off,
or prove something to anyone else but me!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!

431.11 | Contra dancing | SUPER::HENDRICKS | The only way out is through | Mon Apr 10 1989 17:34 | 29 |
| That's a good question.
There is a dance conference on ERIS::DANCE, I think. And the folk
music file on COOKIE::Folk_music sometimes has them. I'm on a bunch
of mailing lists, and I listen to the folk shows on the radio all
the time.
For people west of Boston, they have a dance many nights a week
at the Concord Scout House in the center of Concord, almost always
with live music.
Also, NEFFA, the New England Folk Festival is coming up in Natick
on the weekend of April 21, and there are loads and loads of dance
and music events for 3 days. There's more info about that in the
folk notesfile. There are several beginner sessions in contra dancing
at NEFFA. It's at Natick High School.
There are loads of dances all over New Hampshire (southern
New Hampshire) almost every weekend. The WEVO folk shows on Sat.
and Sun. evenings usually describe upcoming dances and concerts.
If you're really interested, and can't find anything good using
these ideas, send me mail and tell me where you are, and if it's
in New England, I will try to help.
It's a lot of fun, and a wonderful workout!

431.12 | Agree- Dancing is great fun! | GWYNED::JRHODES | | Mon Jul 10 1989 16:32 | 8 |
| My favorite thing to do is go to an area nightclub and dance 5-6 songs
in a row with my SO (who happens to be a much better dancer than me!)
and work up a good sweat. Take a break and do it again...
I must do this at least every two weeks (a couple of alcoholic drinks
to "loosen me up to dance" and tonic water w/lime the rest of the night
helps to burn more calories too!)...
