They're obviously not talking about 5 inches all in one area.
.0> Anyone heard the *real* story on this? What is it??! And how
.0> do people come up with things like this??
Hot towels that act to drive water from the skin. You will
temporarily lose inches. Just don't drink afterward ...
As a general rule, if it sounds too good to be true, it probaly
is.

| Mike,
Oh, I know they didn't mean 5 inches in one area. Total numbers
do sound great, though, don't they?
I guess I was just amazed that people could market something
like this and that people would believe it/buy into it. As for
me, I'll stick to my aerobics and walking and trying to eat right!

1/2 inch off each leg, 1/2 inch of each arm ... that's 2 inches
already and you could do that easy ...
They don't sound great to me. I can't get excited about tem-
porary size loss.

425.4 | They FEEL good | COOKIE::WILCOX | Database Systems/West | Thu Mar 30 1989 11:47 | 16 |
| Ah, but they do FEEL good! I got several body wraps about 6 years
ago. They've been popular in Colorado for years. One place here
offers an intro wrap for about 12 dollars. It's a fairly cheap
way to pamper yourself for an hour, and maybe even fit into those
pants you wanted to wear to that party...just don't eat so much
that you "grow into" them and can't get them off! Oh, the place
I used to get wrapped recommended that you DO DRINK afterward.
Some years back, Cosmo (well, I don't read it anymore...) ran an
article on some woman they had taken on as a "diet challange" and
part of her reducing program included body wraps. They claimed they
were effective against cellulite (yeah, and if loofa was I'd be
cellulite-free). Anyhow, I think the food plan and exercise did
the woman the most good, but you've gotta admit that the psychological
lift by seeing inches "melted" away helps.

Here's another reason it might feel good:
Before the days of Thorazine and other heavy tranquilizers,
mental hospitals used a technique called 'cold-packs' to relax
flagrantly psychotic patients. The would always keep wet towels
in a refrigerator. When a patient need to have a cold-pack, he/she
would undress, lie down, and be wrapped tightly in these cold wet towels.
There was no weight loss reported :-), but the patients would
calm down almost immediately and, as their own body heat warmed
up the towels, the would often drift off into a fairly calm
sleep. Some hospitals are using this technique again rather than
shooting people up with drugs.

Hi Terri,
I know that there used to be a place in downtown Maynard that did this.
Do you work at the Mill? If you walk out onto Main street and walk down
in the direction of McD's... On the right hand side of the road...
almost to McD's, in fact, there is a building set way back from the
road, it's just before the Asabet Party Shop... there was a
tanning/toning place that also did these wraps. They may still be
there.
