424.0. "Advice for someone going on refeeding" by MANTIS::PINCK (Amy Pinck, Long Live the Duck) Tue Mar 28 1989 10:15

    Hi...My mother has been on Opti-fast and is going
    to start re-feeding in the middle of April. She is
    nervous about whether she will be able to control her
    food intake during refeeding and onward.

    I have told her that I will print out some or the messages
    from this notes file of people who have succeeded so that
    she knows that she can too. (thank you Joel). Anyway,
    does anyone know what I can tell her to make her feel more
    sure of herself? Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom? I
    will see her this upcoming weekend.

    Amy

    Youv'e come this far don't blow it now.

    You have to deal with food eventually

    You did real good under totla restriction of Optifast - losing and/or
    maintaining will be real easy with a slightly wider selection to
    choose from.

    The things you learned during the fast and helped you be successful
    during the fast are the same things that are needed during refeedign

    You dealt with stress, anger, depression, happiness, etc. during
    fasting and did not have to resort to food to comfort those emotions,
    the same will be true during refeedign

    Good luck to MOM

I'm also an Opti-Faster and start "refeeding" April 7. I'm also worried, but
am planning to stick with the remaining 3 months for the refeeding program and
then stick with the 6 month maintenance plan. They quote figures like "for
those who continue through maintenance 80% keep their weight off" and only 20%
keep it off for those who don't do it. Of course, it sounds like good
marketing for their 6 month program, and I've not seen the actual "raw" data
to substantiate it.

Just use what she's learned so far in the program:

	Learned what our eating "triggers" are;
	Learned that we CAN do without that dessert;
	Learned that we CAN say NO;
	Learned that we don't HAVE to eat something, it will still
		be available at some other time;
	Learned that we can survive on less food than we thought we "needed";
	No one can do it but me;
	It feels GOOD to be thinner!!!

I've lost 41 to date.

Debbie

    Hi again. I have been away from this notes file for a
    while and have lost track of the 'fasters'. How are you
    guys doing?

    Has anyone gone on to the second set of fasts? My mother
    has done really well for the ??? number of weeks in
    between fasts. She has lost more weight. (Up to 83lbs now!!!)
    Anyway, what are some things I should tell her about how
    it will be different now?

    Good luck everyone!!
    Amy
