| There is an Optifast program at the Waltham/Weston Hospital, Rte.
20, Waltham (the orientation program is on March 2 at 7:30 P.M.).
Also, from what other people have said, there is one in Nashua,
NH. Don't know which of these would be more convenient for you.
However, much closer to where you are, the Rapid Weight Loss Clinics
of N.E. have a Medifast program. They are located in N. Andover
on Rte. 114. I am starting the Medifast program there today. From
what I can tell, the system is quite similar to Optifast, with a
couple of notable exceptions. Medifast seems to be about 2/3 the
cost of Optifast. Since I have HCHP and they won't cover either
program, this is important to me. But Optifast absolutely refused
to give me a break and take my physician's lab reports (which cost
me $3.00 and were done two weeks ago) and Medifast said they would
do so and deduct between $225 and $250 for the program. Also, I
have spoken to a relative who has tried both programs, and she told
me that she prefers the taste of Medifast. In both programs you
go once a week. I believe that on Optifast, after 26 weeks they
begin to add some real food to the program, whereas on Medifast
you continue to stay on the fast until you have lost all the weight.
The maintenance program is quite similar: you are under the care
of a nutritionist, who instructs you on how to begin and maintain
the refeeding program.
I think Optifast has more of a group atmosphere, and if that is
what you need you might like that better. At Medifast, you go
privately. The number for Medifast in N. Andover is (508) 683-6039.
Good luck with whatever you choose!
