397.0. "CAN FORTY MAKE YOU FAT?" by CHEFS::DEAL () Fri Jan 27 1989 08:46
If I tell you I eat no sugar, very low fat, complex carbo diet,
haven't had a piece of cake or pie in YEARS or had (knowingly) a
cola that isn't sugar free.... would you visualize me as skinny
or slim?
If I tell you I eat no meat except chicken and fish, haven't had
fried food, full fat anything on my plate, would you believe I could
gain weight?
If I tell you I count calories and eat just under 1,000 per day
average, MEASURE my four ounces of wine (one glass) at dinner and
average three to five hours of exercise per week (walking or biking)
would you believe that I am gaining weight?
So how come going over forty destroys your figure if you are female?
Or can age drop a metabolic rate so that the calorie count should
be less and less and less? Is it time to consult a nutritionist
since logical, steady, long term healthy eating habits seem to be
losing out to a slow steady build-up of body fat? How can this
be??????

Could you be developing a thyroid problem? This would mess with
your metabolism. Maybe talking with your doctor would help..?

| Or could you be depriving your body so much that it's gotten into
"conserve" mode where it won't let you lose? Yes, see a Dr. or
nutritionist. There could be health implications.
