| I heard in my meeting last week that the program is going to be
pretty much the same as the current program.
Something new that our leader told us about is that everyone is
going to be given ribbons to wear. You'll be given one gold star
for every ten pounds you lose.
I'm not sure I like that idea. I think it'll put added pressure
on people who may not be losing weight as fast as others.

373.2 | We've gotten ribbons for a long time | COOKIE::WILCOX | No more new notes | Fri Nov 18 1988 11:55 | 17 |
| We've been getting ribbons for quite some time and our group really
enjoys it. We truely celebrate for everyone when it's their turn.
I have mine hanging at work with 2 gold stars on it. Keeps me going.
I do understand what you mean, though about the pressure and I think
a lot will depend on the leader and on the general make up of the group.
The meeting I go to is made up of incredibly supportive people.
Another thing we've been getting is a pair of "silver" gull wings after
attending for 8 weeks. It signifies your commitment. And, we've also
been getting a special card stamped at each meeting and after attending
(I think) 10 (maybe 8?) consecutive meetings, we get one of those big
plastic ww mugs.
Oh, one other thing about the "new" program is that tomato juice goes
back to being a vegetable instead of a fruit. Now, isn't that worth
waiting for?!! Guess it was one in the past.

| When, exactly, is this new program supposed to start?
I would like to re-join WW, but would like to wait for the new program
instead of starting one program only to have to change in a few
weeks.

373.4 | Start when you are ready... | HPSRAD::LEWIS | | Mon Dec 19 1988 15:54 | 17 |
| From what I understand, the new one should start officially in the
first week in January. Since I've been going to Weight Watchers
(off and on for almost 5 years) they've changed the program every
year. They always give out the booklets for the new program to the
old member in January -- kind of a bonus, I guess, for being there.
Our group leader also said something about change being good for
motivation in these most-difficult of days. I suspect if you go
this week that they would give you the new booklets instead of the
old -- and if you wait until January there will be lots of people
joining with you.
The program is not significantly different in the latter weeks,
I'm not sure about the earlier ones. But I believe that whenever you
start, you will not notice a big change from one week to the next.

373.5 | We got 'em | COOKIE::WILCOX | Database Systems/West | Mon Dec 19 1988 16:49 | 13 |
| We got our new booklets a couple weeks ago. I would say the biggest
changes are things like counting pies as a combination of bread, fruit,
and optional rather than just optional. They also added carrot juice,
which was not a thrill for me, and made tomato juice a limited veg
instead of a fruit.
There are a few changes in the layout of the books, too. Like, they
are no longer color-coded, rather they use abbreviations, so FR is fruit,
V is vegetable, etc. Nothing very big, just a little more livable. I would
say start now!! Get yourself thru the holidays maybe a bit more in control.
