370.0. "Organize a 20% discount at Holiday Fitness" by BUFFER::LI () Mon Nov 07 1988 10:06

    Holiday Fitness Center is opening a new Lowell Facility (off the Lowell
    Connector). DIGITAL employees can get an ADDITIONAL 20% off any of
    their program memberships if 5 people simultaneously sign up. This
    initial sign-up of 5 people will allow ALL DIGITAL EMPLOYEES thereafter
    to enjoy the 20% discount!

    Holiday Fitness advertises the following features:

    	* most technologically advanced equipment
    	* all certified staff/instructors
    	* aerobics day round
    	* olympic length swimming pool (3 lanes)
    	* 30 person whirlpool
    	* 30 person sauna
    	* Circuit training program
    	* Nautilus equipment
    	* Life Cycles, Rowing Machines, Step Master
    	* Biometric evaluation with personalized programs
    	* Workouts for "professional body trainers/athletes"
    	* Special "women only" work out area
    	* Hours:  10-10 M-Sat, 10-6 on Sunday
    	* Easy payment plan
    	* Life-time transferrable memberships
    	* Unlimited guest privledges (free) [Restriction: same person
    	  can only come once every 90 days]

    The Lowell facility is not due to open until February, 1989 so if
    you sign up now, you get a pre-opening discount! They basically
    have 5 different program levels:

    	* trial membership
    	* Bronze membership
    	* Copper membership
    	* Silver membership
    	* Gold membership

    which have different restrictions etc. The sales person will talk
    you through all the different programs. I thought Holiday Fitness was
    a really good deal with the pre-opening discount. Gold, Silver
    and Copper memberships are renewable every year for guaranteed $25.00.
    Bronze is renewable for $72.00 a year. Biometrics evaluation is included in
    Copper and above and the higher levels just add transferability
    (you can sell your life-time membership!) and the ability to go
    to ANY Holiday Fitness facility. There's one opening in Cambridge,
    there is one in Peabody (I think) and several more are due to open
    within the next few years.

    So if people are interested, there is a sign-up facility in the
    Pheasant Lane Mall in New Hampshire (First Floor, by Jordan Marsh
    or JCPenny-- Jordan Marsh, I think). Try and coordinate 5 people
    simultaneously to get the additional 20% discount. There's also
    a sign-up place somewhere in Lowell, but I don't know where it is.

    If you do sign up, PLEASE mention that you were referred by me
    (Ruby Li). I am hoping to get a DIGITAL discount retro-actively. Also,
    once you're a member, you can get back your membership fee by
    getting any 3 people to join (at your plan level-- SILVER, GOLD
    etc. or above) in a month. Don't go together though, because they'll
    count you as joining simultaneously-- not as referrals.

    I have not yet used this facility (since it's not open yet), but
    I'm very excited about going. They advise that you join with a
    friend to keep each other motivated-- after all, isn't EXERCISE
    the best way to lose weight?

    Just thought I'd let DIGITAL employees know about this corporate
    discount offer,

    Ruby

    What if....

    What if there were already 5 DEC employees signed up for the holiday
    fitness center in lowell...should all other employees automatically
    get the discount...I know of at least six DEC employees...including
    myself who have signed up...there are others....(check out the
    AEROBICS notesfile...

.0> * most technologically advanced equipment

    	They advertise this, but it isn't true.

    	If they had Kaiser and BioCycles instead of Nautilus and
    LifeCycles, I'd believe it.

370.3Simultaneous Registration to QualifyBUFFER::LIMon Nov 07 1988 14:0019
    RE: .1

    What the salesperson told me was that 5 DEC employees had to SIMULTANEOUSLY
    sign up for all DEC employees to get the 20% discount. They said
    (as of Saturday 11/3/88), DEC did not qualify for the discount.
    Too bad, huh?

    RE: .2 Sorry-- that's just what the salesperson told me... they
    do try to make it *fun* and *exciting* by creating a nice work
    environment to help motivate people to workout on a consistent
    schedule. They say they even have 2 TV's in front of the Lifecycles
    so you can catch up on the news.

    [Also forgot to mention they have an 8' suspended track around the
    floor for joggers/runners with a run/walk lane.]

370.5Most technologically advanced?BUFFER::LIWed Nov 09 1988 11:0418
    Actually, I was just looking at their Brochure and they *do* have
    Keiser fitness equipment. They also have

    	* Universal
    	* Polaris
    	* Paramount
    	* Hogan
    	* Nautilus

    supposedly making them the "most copmlete Fitness complex in the
    area"

    Well, I for one can't wait for the Lowell center to open. Just
    in time to get in shape for those hot summer months!
