Seems that the market is filled with "diet" books .. specifying
diets of all types. However, are folks familiar/experienced with
reading books which help mental attitude/self esteem/willpower during
the weightloss process? I tend to create my own diets (as I don't
like the structure most published diets promote) and have done ok,
at best.
I do, tho, seem to be more successful at things which I've developed
a mental strength for .. i.e. I know what's bad to eat (and I feel
incredibly guilty after I've ~cheated~) and know what one should
eat so perhaps I'm looking for a book which will discuss ways to
change my attitudes towards food (maybe something that will convince
me that raw carrot sticks taste as good as praline truffles :-) ..
perhaps a little extreme) ... a book that will put the concept of
"food" and "our daily lives" into the proper perspective.
I guess I need some mental fortification .. I've always been between
15 and 35 pounds overweight (currently around 15) and want to
desperately get to a point where I'm satisfied, once and for all.
Weight has been (or I've let it become) a crutch in many things
in my life and wish to conquer it .. it seems that our society
is becoming much more intolerant of this issue (overweight) .. at
least that's been my experience (I've been {and in} relationships
where this factor was a serious issue and distanced us over time) ...
In any case, sorry to ramble .. any titles you could offer would
be appreciative.
Thanks much,
Ken

Ken, although you asked about books and food and attitude, I'd like to throw in my 2 cents for something else I have found extremely helpful. Namely the Investment in Excellence seminar. My former unit manager put all those of us who wanted to go through it. It was fantastic. It really helps a person see him or her self as worthy (i.e., you deserve to weigh less). Don't know if Digital is into it as much as we used to be. Liz | |||||
