318.0. "But I Am Not Hungry!" by VAXWRK::CONNOR (On no! Not Another Light Bulb Joke) Wed Jul 06 1988 13:44

There are several diet books that say dont eat if you
are not hungary. The problem is that many meals, especially
supper are prepared for you and saying that you're not
hungary might not go over to well. What then is one
	to do?

In general, eat when you're hungry is a good principle, but sometimes
you have to bend it a little.

There are 2 parts to this. One is the special occasion, in which case
you can plan your day around the fact that you'll be eating a meal at
a known time. If it'll be a bit on the late side, hold of on meals a
little bit for the rest of the day, or plan an extra snack in the
    midafternoon.

The other case is when the standard situation is that someone at home
prepares dinner on a daily basis. I think the best thing to do there
is to "recruit" them -- make them want to help, then explain what
you're trying to do, and why. Ask them to understand if you wait to
eat until later; if they prepare foods on your plan, you can eat them
when you're ready to. If that's too devastating to the preparer, just
eat a small portion of whatever, and be vehement about not eating
    desserts or fatty breaded things.
