283.0. "Exercise Toning Tables?" by DELNI::LANE () Wed May 18 1988 08:13

I have recently started using exercise tables in Westford. Does
anyone have any good news, bad news, about these tables? My theory
is, "It's too easy!" and nobody gets a free lunch. The people there
"guarantee me" lots of toning and loss of inches!

    Anybody else tried them?

Last year my daughter, aged 19, did this with a friend and lost
a few inches, she wasn't that impressed. We really didn't think
that she was overweight. She's 5'8 and weighted 144. She spent
the past year living with a family (she's a college student) also
close friends of ours, who are very health conscious. They fed
her very well and from Sept to May she lost 25 lbs. She feels that
eating a diet low in fats and cholersterol and doing weight training
(done at home with her brothers weights) did the trick. She actually
started out using milk bottle filled with sand and leg and wrist
weights which she made with old knee socks filled with plastic bags
of dried beans. That way you can start with one pound of beans
in each sock and work your way up. When the socks couldn't hold
any more beans she went to milk bottles and from there to her brothers
weights. We also did aquaaerobics at the YWCA in Manchester, NH
twice a week. She did that more for me than for herself (I have
arthritis and can't do most of the regular exercises).

Well I certainly did run on.....in a nut shell, for what it costs
(and the price is not that bad) there were few results.

    Good luck to you

    Anne

Thanks Anne, I am going to tell my daughter about the bean's in
the sock weights! I think that's great! This place that I am
going to is the cheapest one around (some are really expensive).
I will give it the 15 visits and see what happens. I would say,
however, when I leave I feel terrific! Very energenic.... I also
have cut way down on the junk food, am eating lots of fruit and
drinking tons of water..... I want to see RESULTS!!!!

Obviously you are 'seeing' resutls. As you said you 'feel terrific!
    Very energenic...'

The most important changes that I have experienced because of my
weightloss has been in how I feel, and what I feel like (capable
    of) doing.

re .0 (Nancy):

A friend of mine told me about the exercise tables; I'm sure she'll reply
here soon :-).

I asked my aerobic instructor about them. She said they do basically the same
thing as other "spot toning" exercises we do in class, like leg lifts, etc.
So, they do work, and your muscles are doing work, even though you have
help from the machines. You are limited, though, to what the machines will
do for you. I don't think they could compete with someone lifting weights
(but I've never been there) or possibly other more "active" exercises.

You feel good afterwards because your muscles have been exercised, and after a
day at work that sounds real good (well, it is real good, I go to aerobics
after work!). I've been meaning to try out a free session just to see what
it's like.

The bad news is it does nothing for your cardiovascular system. You do have
to work to get this in shape, but if you pick something fun, it can be fun work.

What is the cost at the Westford place? Where is it?

Let us know how it works out!

Are these tables at the Westford facility? If so, do you know of any
    around the Maynard (Mill) area?

    thanks, Pam

RE: .4, yeah some friends will always back you up and write a reply
    :-)

I'm the friend Jill is talking about... I go to Slender Body in
Marlboro, the visits there are $5.00 a visit, payable in advance
in blocks of 10... I have been going for 2 weeks now, and find that
they are okay... I will have my first measurement coming up, so
I won't REALLY know until then if they REALLY did any toning...

My Mom has been using them for over 6 months now,and they HAVE worked
on her... that is why I decided to give it 10 visits, and see if
    they did anything on me...

I do know that on the last table, which is an all over vibrating
table that I get sooooooo relaxed I usually fall asleep!... I also
use the waist table for 20 minutes instead of 10 whenver I can...

    Hi all,

I have been going to Slender You in Westford (is this the place
you are talking about, Anne?) I love it. I am seeing results (and
it's great when people comment on how good I look, well, that feels
great, too!) But, not only am I seeing results, I am feeling them.
Like you said, I feel so relaxed and just generally GOOD when I
    leave there.

I do realize that these tables do not do anything for me aerobically.
So, I walk for my aerobic exercise. The combination of these two
activities is turning out to be very productive.

    Just my $.02!

    -Amy.

re .5 (Pam)

I hear from another friend :-) that there is a place called Slenderizer
in Maynard at the old bowling alley, 24 Main Street. Phone number is 897-3735.

Check it out some lunchtime and let us know what you find out!

    Hi!

I go to SunTone Athletic Center in Westford. It is $35.00 for
15 visits (plus the free visit!) So for that price I thought I'd
give it a try. I am going three times a week right after work.
I love the relaxing table too! It's great!

I went to Slenderizers about three weeks ago. They have 6 machines
but they are REALLY expensive! Their price is $60.00 for 10 visits,
or 8.00 per visit. The people there are really nice, but I thought
    that was a bit high.....

283.11$35/15 visits sounds fair :-)ARGUS::CORWINI don't care if I AM a lemmingThu May 19 1988 12:1210
re .9 (Nancy)

Where in Westford is the SunTone Ath. Center? How would I get there from LKG
(since I know where that is...).

btw, I don't know if your finger slipped, but $60 for 10 visits is $6.00 a
visit, which isn't way out of line with most of the other places I've heard of.

283.12Directions to SunToneDELNI::LANEMon May 23 1988 08:1920
    Hi,

I wanted to get the right address of the Suntone Fitness Center.

                       Suntone Fitness Center
                       Route 110, Olde Boston Square
                       Unit 29, Westford

                       692-7524

It is BEFORE the Westford Regency. They look like blue townhouses.

      re: $60.00 for 10 visits....

I guess once I heard about Suntone's price of $35.00 for 16 visits,
I thought that 60.00 was a bit high.....
