268.0. "Breaking Through" by JJM::ASBURY () Fri Apr 29 1988 06:30
Hello, all,
I need some help - advice or maybe just encouragement. I'm having
a very tough time. I started WW 4 weeks ago. Since then, I have
lost a grand total of only 1 pound. I am eating right, staying on
program, walking, and drinking PLENTY of water. I know, intellectually,
that if I just keep this up, my body will eventually catch up with
my efforts. However, I am having some *nasty* motivation problems.
The little voice in my head, you see, tells me that I can keep myself
at the same weight quite easily, without going through WW. This
is true. So, how do I counter that little voice and convince it
that I am doing the right thing? (It's a pretty strong voice, tends
to tell me all sorts of other negative things, too...)
I think that this plateau might be easier to deal with if I had
had some substantial weightloss beforehand, so I could tell myself
"look, self, you just lost 15 pounds, now your body is adjusting...
just give it time. You don't want to screw up all that you've alreay
accomplished, right?"
I asked the leader at my WW meeting last night how to deal with
this. She gave me a booklet called Breaking Through. It is a very
restrictive diet that you follow for a week. It looks quite similar
to the week 1 book. Have any of you tried this? How has it worked
for you?
Thanks for any ideas you might have.
-Amy.

| I haven't tried it personally, but lots of people in the WW class
I go to have and the least amount of weight lost in one week from
following the Breaking Through booklet has been 3 pounds. Some
people have lost even more than that. I think you should follow
that for as long as WW recommends (2 weeks, I think) and if you
still don't have a weight loss, your leader will probably suggest
you see a doctor. If you are really following the program correctly,
you should have lost more than 1 pound by now, unless you are on
some kind of medication that inhibits weightloss. Have you tried
keeping your food diary religiously and having your WW leader check
it over to make sure you are following the program? In the past,
I have gone more than 4 weeks losing very little or nothing at all,
but then I wasn't REALLY following the program, so I expected that.
Good luck to you, let us know what comes of this.
Susan
