George,
About 2 months ago I decided to do the above. I had never dieted
in my life. I am only 25 and I was watching a steady increase in
the area round my gut in the last 3 years or so. In college I used
to weigh in at just over 11 stones. My highest weight to date was
13 and a half.I am just under 6 feet in height.
Any how I started the Beergut irradication campaign a number of
months ago I bombarded my body with every form of weight relif I
could think of.
Try 1 (about a year ago)
The cambridge diet (involves taking packets of powder three times
a day)This was not for me lasted 3 days and gave up.
Try 2
This is the one mentioned above.
First I started joging 2 miles every couple of days I found this
hard at first but I perservered and my longest run to date is just
over 9 miles in an hour and 15 minitues.I try and run at least 3
miles every second night.
After the run I have a situp bench on this I do
50 situps then 3 min rest 40 situps then 3 min rest 30 then 3 min
rest and so on.I do this every second night. Also I have started
swimming every 3rd night in the week (this is not so regular as
I find it requires a bit of organisation ).I also bought weights
but a few of my friends assured me that I would start putting weight
on as muscle is heaver than fat so I did this for a few weeks but
it has faded out but I intend to come back to it.
Food wise I have not followed any diets as such.I used to eat chips
lamb morning rolls with bacon etc then dinner at 12:00 the dinner
again at 7:00 ,also I would have tea with milk and 2 suggars.
This I ripped appart.
I have no breakfast no rolls at 10:00 a meal at 12:00 which is mainly
salad with a baked potatoe small fresh orange juice and a slice
of wholemeal bread.During the day I still take a lot of tea but
no milk and no sugar.I try to stick to that as much as I can .I
do not have any thing when I go home (twice I have forecome to a
snack)This routeen lasts from Sunday till Fri.On friday I go out
to the pub and quite often have a currie etc (I have given up on
the crisps as much as possible )
The result of all this is
to date I have reached 11 stone 9 and it is still ongoing I am finding
it easier to do as time goes on I strugled at 12 stone for a while
via I was told a plateau.I have consulted various section of this
notes file all along and find it very usefull.
Hope you get on ok I basically think determination is the name of
the game.
Best of luck Iain. ( dinner in 10 minitues phew!!)

252.2 | About Liposuction... | PHENIX::BOONE | Chris...the brown Fox | Wed Mar 30 1988 06:40 | 11 |

Saw on TV one day (some special show) the technique
of liposuction...totally disgusting, and I don't care
how over-weight I might be, I wouldn't let anybody do
that to my body.
A few people have died from liposuction afterwards also.
I can't remember the exact reasons why, but nevertheless
it happened.

| Liposuction......
It is not natural to have someone go under your skin and suck out
your fat cells. And for that reason alone, you should NOT do it.
It ranks right up there with having your stomach stapled or having
a balloon inserting into your stomach and having it inflated.
You need to learn what to eat, and then you will be NATURALLY slim
and trim, and more importantly HEALTHY!

252.4 | more on fat | COOKIE::CABANYA | | Wed Mar 30 1988 09:09 | 20 |
| not only is it gross and not natural, new studies in this area are
showing that the fat taken away via liposuction DOES return to the
body - sometimes in the area it was originally taken from and some-
times to another area. If you don't want the fat to return you
have to change that part of your life habits that put it there in
the first place.
An interesting news article I read this morning was about a study
done (on rats of course) with two different diet compositions
containing the same amount of calories. One group of rats followed
a high carb low fat diet and one group of rats followed a lower
carb higher fat diet (about the same diet we currently 'enjoy'
in our culture). It was found that the rats on the higher fat
diet tended to put on weight in the ab area. So ... maybe the
morale of the study is to lower your fat intake instead of worrying
about your total calorie intake!
