Hi Lynn,
I am a person who gets bored very easily. I get bored with
eating the same things, doing the same things, seeing the
same people, wearing the same old clothes, living in the same
place, having the same job, driving the same car, etc. I could
go on and on. It's actually something I have only recently
realized about myself. I need variety. A lot. So, with that as
an intro, I think I am pretty qualified to answer your question,
having been there myself, many times.
Sometimes, the feeling passes on its own. For example, usually
around February I become *seriously* bored with winter. But just
pointing out to myself that "This too shall pass" helps.
More specifically, though, what I do is try to give myself the
variety that I crave whenever I can. Sometimes changing just a
couple of small things, I can get rid of the overwhelming feeling
of boredom.
Bored with exercise? Try something completely different - if you
usually walk or ride a bike, try aerobics set to your favorite kind
of music...or vice-versa. Bored with your food plan? If it's feasible,
try a different one. Bored with eating what seems like the same old
stuff (cause it's 'good for the diet')? Get creative. Combine foods
in new ways...cook them in different ways. One thing I do sometimes -
go to the spice section of your grocery store and buy a couple of
spices you've never tried before (watch out for salt, of course).
Most of all, as hard as it may seem, you have to be creative. And
daring - try new things, even if it's on a really small scale (like
a new spice...)
Well, that's my two cents worth. I hope I've helped.
-Amy.

Yep, I went through the same thing a month or two ago.
Bored with food? I'm taking a cooking class specializing in low fat,
low calorie foods that can be prepared quickly. At least it gives me
some good ideas. I'm also trying some new dishes from Cooking Light
magazine that I haven't tried before. Anything for new variety.
Bored with winter? Fresh flowers or a flowering plant remind me that
spring is coming. (By the way, just today in MA I saw the first shoots
of what I suppose are crocus coming up...come on spring!!!)
Bored with exercise? Try something new. Or just take a week break from
what you're doing now BUT PROMISE YOURSELF THAT IT WILL BE ONLY ONE WEEK!
Sometimes it's just a break that you need.
If you can't change the things you're bored with, change something else.
I was getting bored with my aerobics class, but I realize the benefits
so I didn't want to drop it. I took a week off which gave me a break.
Then I found some other activities to take my mind off the regular
routine (I'm costuming a play and helping with a community quilt).
So although I didn't change everything I was bored with, other things
changed which have taken my mind off the same old routine things.
Good Luck. Let us know how you over come this.
