168.4 | I think it's the holidays... | STAR::YANKOWSKAS | Paul Yankowskas | Fri Dec 11 1987 13:49 | 23 |
| You have a good point Ann -- with the rushing around that accompanies
the Christmas season, there are undoubtedly some people who put their
weightloss program "on the back burner" during the holidays.
At the Weight Watchers meeting I went to this past Wednesday,
attendance was only about half of what it usually is.
Also, if I had a dollar for every person who I've heard say "After
the first of the year, I'm going on a diet", I'd be richer than
if I hit Megabuck$.
I'd be willing to bet that participation in this conference will
go up dramatically after the first of the year.
In the meantime, Ann, keep up the good work with your weightloss
program. Wouldn't it be great to record a nice loss over the next
month, and see someone write in this file after the first of the
year, "If Ann Arno can do it, I can do it too!".

pregnant 3 months ago and no longer diet....just try to maintain.
It was a little disappointing since I had just lost so much weight

Well anyway I will try and be more active, and by the way Ann, I
am thrilled to here how well you are doing!

| Yeah, Paul, too many people say "after the first of the year...", and then
nothing happens, but then again, I can't really imagine starting a diet
now, either!
And by the way, if anyone out there needs inspiration (we all do now, right?),
I want everyone to know that I reached my goal between Christmas and New
Year's last year!! Matter of fact, I weighed in at the start of the new
WW session 1.5 pounds BELOW my goal.
And my goal for this year (well, next year...) is to do the same thing.
I just checked my records and I am at within a pound of where I was this time
last year! Not particularly good news, since I'd been backsliding a bit,
but not horribly BAD either, huh? (I lost 35 pounds to get to goal and
kept MOST of it off...)
So, let's get supportive!

| Well.. I'm here too (still moderating this file for you guys :-)...),
but with MAXCIM coming live on the 28th of December, I don't have
time to go to the bathroom, let alone read NOTEs during the day!...
I will be so glad when the 28th of December gets here and the project
goes live!... then my life can get real hectic, and I can then unstress
myself a little....
For an update.... I have been maintaining for 6 months now... will
be flying out to Ottawa Canada the 23rd of December, and flying
back the 27th of December (for MAXCIM turnon) to be at work on the
28th. On the 28th, I am restarting my diet, and hope to lose another
30 pounds, to put me at the beginning of my range instead of being
at the almost tippy end of my range.
Meanwhile.... its back to MAXCIM... I will continue to look in each
night before I go to bed and "check" up on the conference for
moderating duties, but probably won't write for at least several
months, and CAN'T even think on going into notes until right before
bedtime :-)...
Until we meet again...

| Re: The "I'll diet after the holidays" syndrome:
It's one thing, I think, to stick with a successful program through the
holidays; it's much harder to start one now. I missed the first Weight
Watchers' meeting last week because I was out of town, but I'm psyched
for it. And yet, when I think about driving from NH to Ohio, and
the quantity of food I'll be faced with while I'm there, it's a bit
daunting. Travel, especially by car, is a big problem for me. I get
*really* sick of salads, and my wheat allergy prevents me from eating
much else at rest stops (not that they carry much that's good for you,
anyway!).
I know, I should carry fruit and low-cal munchies, but somehow those
never seem very interesting on a long trip.
We shall see. I'll just keep thinking of this conference!

My Weight Watcher leader said if your not aware of what you
are eating over the Holidays you can easily gain 15 - 20

So we can still have fun but we also can use our heads and
not ruin all we did all year to lose...
Good luck

Oh, well. This year, I'm not going to put the weight back on;
I'm going to keep losing. I only have 12.7 punds to go, and I'm
not going to let anything mess me up this time!!!! I have planned

Since it isn't commonly known, I thought I would pass along the
info that Weight Watchers has a program for use during pregnancy.
If you've lost a lot of weight and want to stay on a weight loss
program or a well-defined maintenance program, you might like to
check it out.
They do ask you to check with your doctor for his agreement.

| Ann, sorry this took so long - I have not been noting (too much
shopping)! I like the Weight Loss clinic - I have lost 33 pounds
and have 12 more pounds to go - and that should be off by the end of
January. I am considering going another 10, but that remains to be
seen. It IS expensive, but it works for me, and for many different
reasons. One thing that helps is the monitoring every day, which gives
a lot of support. Also, I tend to have low blood sugar and I lose
things like potassium (sp?) fast, and the nurses have helped me balance
my program so that I feel good and am not sick all the time, which
tends to happen to me when I "Cut bacK" or whatever. It is also
easier for me right now to have a list of foods that I can eat, and
those you CAN'T have - for now. For me, a little bit gets bigger and
bigger and bigger - and then I can't believe I ate the whole thing!!!!!
It really works, and I can stick to it, and I get a lot of support and
medical supervision, so I whole-heartedly reccommend it. I went after
a friend with some more severe health problems had great success with
their program.
Take care ,
and everyone have a good holiday!!!!

All the New Year dieters are hitting the 2-month plateau, which is a
drag. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback from my husband,
but it still gets harder every time I try to walk by the candy machine.
I think it may have more to do with a general feeling of BLAH! I know
I've been fighting that; the 1/2 pound losses the last 3 weeks were
mostly due to inertia. I've developed better eating habits, and
they're mostly sticking, but I just don't feel as inspired as I did.

If you are referring to my 231.4, please reread it. I don't feel
it's an example of "telling people off"; I feel I was just stating
an opinion which was not in agreement with an opinion stated in
a previous reply.
That is what NOTES conferences like this are about; the exchange
of information and opinions. Those opinions are not always going
to agree.
I agree with you that "personal attacks" have no place in a NOTES
conference, but there is also a difference between saying "I disagree
with what was stated in such and such a note" and "You're out to
lunch". While I read a good bit of the former in this conference,
I seldom if ever recall a case of the latter.
