Good topic! Although my vacation won't be coming up until the week before Labor day (my wife and I will be going to Virginia), I did spend a few days away during the July 4th weekend. Strangely enough, we found that getting *enough* of certain items, especially milk and fuit exchanges and water, was more of a problem than eating too much. However, we both recorded losses at our weighin the following Thrusday. I'd like to pass on a few things that helped us out that may be of some benefit to the vacationers out there: o Having a good full breakfast before departing eliminated the urge to stop at a fast food place at late morning or early afternoon. o Bring a cooler with some ice, in which you can store a supply of perishable items such as fruit. It may not be easy to find good fresh fruit where you're going. You might also pack a lunch to eat at a rest stop or picnic area along the way, and store it in the cooler as well. o Bring along or be prepared to purchase some bottled water. Our one unpleasant surprise on our July 4th weekend at Lake George was that the water at the B&B we stayed at tasted LOUSY. Good luck on your summer vacation, Ann...looking forward to a reply in her with a happy ending on your return. o

Hi everyone, I just got back from my vacation and it was a test for sure. At times I made it through a mean just fine and others I ate like anyone else that was there.. Like when we ate out and people had desserts I had it too.. It sure is hard when everyone else is eatting it and you are sitting there.. I had grapenut pudding that I love. I always say well I am on vacation so why not.. There are times when I did better and didn't eat so much. I weight myself and I gained a little but not like I thought. It sure is a meal to meal battle.. All my vacation is all used up for now.. So now I will be looking forward to weekends.. It should be easier.. I did do alot of swimming and also went for walks.. I was at my parents cottage in Maine. So it's nice in the morning to take a walk and watch the water.. and the animals all around. So how did you all do on your vacations? Did you forget sometimes like me? Or did you stick to it better? It was a nice vacation but I still can see I need to work on areas of my eatting habits still..... As always Ann

So why don't we share how we did on our vacations.. Was it hard ? Did we follow our programs? Did we goof off a bit? Are we ready to get serious once again.. If you failed don't feel like a loser because we are all winners.. The ones that don't give up but stick with it we will do it .. So let's help each other it's been a nice summer but let's make next year even better by being the best we can be.. We don't have to look like a movie star or a 10 .. Just look good and feel good for you!!! Ann

There are going to be times when we "slip" and I think if we plan for it... bank calories...have a plan... it's okay and we should enjoy it. grins, marge

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a good week and a good long weekend. I was away last week on vacation; my wife and I spent five days in Williamsburg, Virginia. We drove as far as Reading, PA the first night, where we did some shopping (Reading has a very large number of outlet stores) and visited some of my wife's relatives. We arrived in Williamsburg on Monday, and stayed there until Saturday, touring COlonial Williamsburg (similar to Old Sturbridge Village, only much larger and more of the buildings are the actual buildings rather than recreations) and the Yorktown battle site, as well as spending a day at Busch Gardens. We drove as far as Gettysburg, PA on Saturday, and spent Sunday morning touring a few museums and exhibits that we missed when we were there last summer before driving the rest of the way home. How'd I do with my weightloss program during that time? For the most part, pretty well. I did allow myself a light beer or glass of wine with a few evening meals, and went a little over on protien and/or bread exchanges a couple of days, but that was really the extent of any splurging. On most days, we had cereal and juice in our hotel room for breakfast, stopped at a fast food place for the salad bar at lunch, and had a nice meal in the evening. I certainly didn't use vacation as an excuse to "pig out" as I had in past years. In addition, I got in five days of jogging last week, and also did a bit more walking than usual. According to the scale at home, it appears that I've stayed the same or perhaps recorded a slight loss. I'll know for sure when I go to Weight Watchers tomorrow night. Looking forward to bearing down and losing the eight pounds I need to reach goal once and for all. Paul |
