64.0. "Quickie Information Requests" by WIZDOM::MONTOYA (LOIS) Tue Jun 23 1987 09:50

I have read ALOT of positive words in favor of the Weight Watchers
program. I would like to get a bit of information about Weight
Watchers to see if it would be a beneficial way for me to try losing
    weight.

I was brought up pretty much a vegetarian; meaning I do not eat
meat (beef, chicken, pork, etc) or fish (can't stand the smell),
but do eat most other foods; including meat substitutes which are
    made from soy.

Can you tell me if the WW program relies heavily on meat/fish or
would I be able to substitute real meat with the soy products?
I don't want to spend the money for a weightloss program just to
find out that I don't eat half the food that's on it.

I have tried lots of fad diets but put the weight back on. I want
to lose 27 lbs. total but just haven't found a way I could stick
    to.

WW seems like a great idea, but like I said, I'd like to know what
    their menu consists of.

    Thanks in advance..

    Lois

Weight Watchers relies on food exchange lists to create a nutritionally
balanced diet. The protein exchange list includes meats, cheese,
beans, tofu, and other protein-rich foods, and you can substitute
anything on the list; thus, if you were supposed to have four
"proteins" at one meal, you could decide whether to use chicken
or beans or a soy substitute.

My husband had very good success with WW, and I'd recommend it as
    a long-term program.

The WW Plan allows for 4 ounces of cheese and 4 eggs per week. If
you elect to take their 'vegetarian plan' they will allow you 2
more of each-- 6 ounces of cheese and 6 eggs per week.

The vegetarian WW plan also lists tofu and tempeh exchanges, and
even works in peanut butter as a protein if I remember correctly.

64.5Information on US frozen meals neededSNOC01::MYNOTTHugs to all Kevin Costner lookalikesWed Jan 17 1990 19:3915
I'm not sure if this is the right place (please move if not).

I'm coming over to the States in May and staying with friends for two
weeks, both Mass. and NH. Because its probably easier if I buy frozen
dinners, could you tell me which ones have the lowest fat reading.

I hear WW have quite a high reading, but don't know of any other brands
available. We have one brand here in Australia that reads (depending
on your selection) under 8 grams per serve of about 300 calories.

    Many thanks,

There is a new type of frozen meal here called healthy choice.
They are extremely low in fat and also have fairly low sodium.
Going from memory I would say that their typical meal has about
280 calories and 3-7 grams of fat.

.5> dinners, could you tell me which ones have the lowest fat reading.

You should find nutritional information listed on the packages
of almost all prepared foods, dale.

	You'll find grams-fat, grams-carbohydrates, grams-protein, total
calories (if you multiply calories/sering by servings/package), and
    vitamin and mineral content.
