24.0. "The Rice Diet Report" by SUPER::HENDRICKS () Thu Apr 30 1987 05:43
I picked up a book called The Rice Diet Report by Judy Moscovitz
the other day. I have a rice diet of my own design which I have
used with good results, so I wanted to read about hers.
The book is about a diet doctor in Durham, NC, and his famous
diet which he has been promoting for over 50 years. He has a place
called "The Rice House" where people can go participate in a
residential program for as long as it takes.
I don't want to do the exact diet in the book, since I don't
particularly like fruit, and that is a feature. But I found the
book itself to be very helpful and encouraging. Judy Moscovitz
writes well, and in writing about a particular diet, she has brought
up a number of points which would be applicable to any diet.
I have been keeping the book on my bedside table and reading for
inspiration.
One thing I especially like is her views on cheating: everyone
will do it sometime, sooner or later. She discusses how to do it
without trashing yourself permanently, and better yet, how to think
about doing it without guilt. Some of the other books take the
view "...and you will never want or need to cheat again on this
diet!" and usually lose me right there.
She has some good stories about growing up fat which made her book
very credible for me.
