1435.0. "DIGITAL sues Intel (so does Cyrix)" by CHEFS::16.42.4.227::hattos (I'm back - as a matter of fact) Wed May 14 1997 09:00

For those of you who were wondering just what patents Intel are alleged to
have infringed.

http://www.news.com/News/Item/0,4,10612,00.html?latest

gives you a little more info.

This should be interesting - almost certainly will be settled out of court,
which should boost our profits!!

What makes you think that? (I'm not disagreeing, it's just I
haven't seen that predicted anywhere else).

No discussion of pending legal action involving Digital is allowed. Please
restrict entries to pointers to publically available information and
reports. If you wish to post articles state the external source to make it
clear it did not orginate here.

Thanks,
Dave (Co-Mod).

Dave,

I didn't quote information merely the pointer to it.

Also look at

http://www.digital.com/flash/intelpr.html

Which is on the external web site so I guess we can discuss that can't we?

The "rules" have been made clear in the DIGITAL notes conference.
There's to be no discussion on the matter. None whatsoever. Posting
externally available news items, etc, is OK as long as no comment
    accompanies them.

Which most of us don't have time to keep up with...

Does that mean the last days worth of CSC smoking room chat is all
against the rules too!!! Oh dear...

The rules of this conference have been in place since 1988 and are posted
in topic 1.

To save you looking the relevant rule is:-

        3. Do not talk about pending or potential legal action.

It is never wise to speak in an open forum about a pending legal
action, be it criminal or civil in nature. Do not use a Digital-
sponsored forum to write about the merits or validity of any
legal action. Asserting that there are grounds for legal
action, even when such action has not been taken can involve
you and the company in all manner of complications. If you
know of a wrong, it is far better to correct it than to draw
        attention to it.

The complications refered to here are mainly the 'discovery' process. This
is when lawyers get to look at all relevant documentation held by the other
party. Replies here could be considered documents.

    RE .5

Typical! I aim to inform and then have to put up with sarcastic banter.

Seems clear enough to me now Dave, although I feel sure that it was aimed at
external fora.

It makes interesting reading as it is the full text of the law suit filed.
However I do hope that the corporate style police don't notice that throughout
the document that the company is referred to as Digital rather than DIGITAL.

Bit of a weak response, but predictable.
