1434.0. "Does anyone know "tjp" who did Unix/C/sendmail consultancy in January 1996???" by KERNEL::COFFEYJ (La Feline Flooz - a unix cat) Tue May 13 1997 18:42

Can anyone help me!!!!!

After much discussion a customer now agrees that create_db is
probably not an integral part of sendmail on digital unix
3.2g as none, bar one, of his systems or ours have it,
and it's not listed in /usr/.smdb./*.inv

So since he's not over the moon and there's no chance of
me or engineering modifying the code which he's unhappy with
to have some error handling so it doesn't corrupt his
sendmail stuff then I'm trying to find out the creator of
this rogue code.

The comment in the sources he has (another clue it's not from the
real kits) say something along the lines of the following....

"Given a file in the usual form this will produce an ndbm
pair of files. it creates a hashed file overwritting any
existing ones of the same name - this does the same job as newaliases."
"tjp digital 15/jan 1996"

So, the chance of a sip of my pint of cider down the GL goes
to the person who sucessfully shops the person responsible
for this code to me so I can get the customer talking to
someone appropriate....

Some of you must have some idea who T J P, a consultant
capable of C programming at least who was around a year
and a half ago was?

Is he/she still here?

(fat chance eh :-)

Thanks

    Jo,

The powers of AV came up with DECWET::PAINTER, but I can't find
him/her in Elf. The right sort of nodename for UNIX code though!

Excellent, it was Tony,
the call is now closed,
and the customer is modifying his
own custom code to do some error handling :-)

    This is quite interesting...

    A search wth AV notes ( http://www-notes.lkg.dec.com:8000 )

didn't find too many TJPs - Tony normally signs notes with a "T". But
his mistake was to include a "SID" article in one of his replies,
which did have a "TJP" signature.

Now to remove all those Jc trailers...

    Ooops - I forgot!
