| | Yes, I have seen that - mainly the Boston area notes. I know they are
    re-arranging things over there so maybe thats why

|  |     Interesting that a $directory SMURF:: works,  while a $directory/FULL
    SMURF:: hangs for minutes. SMURF:: is just one of many nodes that fail
    like this!

| | Noted was where I first noticed it - since then every US based
    conference I access works for a note or two, then stops for ever!

    Is this a DECnet virus :-)

	I've logged this with the US network ops centre. It seems to affect
systems in Areas 55, 7 & 4. However, it doesn't all systems in those areas.

	Ian

	You need to be more specific about what your problem is.
        There's no problem with the conference, it works fine for me.

        If you get a more detailed error message, set your right
        margin to 80 columns and post it here, someone may be able to
        help more.

        ~Ian.

	I've also got a problem connecting to a couple of confeences
	also on Humane. They are postscript_printing and ansi_printing.
	The error is:
	Error writing HUMANE::
	Device timeout.
	A colleague can connect to both these conferences from a different
	node.
	Any ideas?

| | Isn't HUMANE a cluster ? If so, it's entirely possible that some nodes
    work OK for Notes, and some don't because something's been "adjusted".
    Try again a couple of times and you'll get another node in the cluster,
    and it might work.

    Then again, it might just be part of a grand plan to Stamp Out Notes.

    regards
    john

| 1405.18 | Device Timeout - exit notes and reenter | KERNEL::ANDERSONL |  | Fri May 16 1997 13:34 | 8 |
| | A bit late I know but the problem if you get Device Timeout is on the
    node your notebook is on. I have had this problem for a while and have
    found that exiting from notes and going back in fixes it for a while,
    eventually however I have to log off from the node and reconnect as the
    error occurs more and more frequently. I have logged a call with 3030
    and will let you know what the response is...

| | Is anyone aware of any Notes/network configuration changes on
CHEFS recently ?
My Netnotes client is now no longer able to access any notesfiles
going direct using "chefs.reo.dec.com".
If I route through "warder.reo.dec.com", it seems to work OK -
however obviously it makes sense to use direct connections to save
our poor network ;-)
