1326.3How dispose old euipment or assets?CHEFS::TREVENNOR_AA child of initMon Apr 07 1997 09:258
    Hi,
How do I contact the "Service Store" or "Computer Asset Recovery"
as I have some museum pieces which need disposing of through official
    channels.

    Thanks
    Alan T.

The Service Store should still be on 7830 1366, if in doubt try the
    switchboard 7830 3111.

    Alan,

If you really have some "museum pieces", maybe a museum may be the
    appropriate channel.

Modern rubbish, I have a working VT52.

I bought a box of miscellaneous equipment at a car boot sale
on Sunday for 1. I've kept the Mannesman Tally printer and
the Epson portable computer... the two VT220's are now in my
dustbin. The guy selling them also has a couple of PDP's to
get rid of, but they'll probably be as much as a fiver.

Should you be doing business with this character ? Sounds like
he might be in the DPL

I thought the DPL was for people we can't SELL our technology
too, isn't buying it back OK? :-)

Actually the guy had bought an old factory unit that had stood
derelict since the previous owners went bust in the late 80's.
He was taking advantage of the fact that a car boot sale was
being run in the adjacent carpark to clear the place out.

I tried to return a 1200 baud modem to IS recently. It belongs
to them. They told me they didn't want it. Such waste of
corporate resources ...

They did tell me that my cost centre had to arrange to scrap the
kit and to pay the cost of doing so. I think it's more likely
that the modem will just get lost. It never was a Digital Asset!

Hardly. It would take more in time and resources to have the kit
disposed of, than you would gain from disposing of it in that fashion.

Just toss it in the bin. I would hardly call a 1200 baud modem an asset.

Just toss it in the bin? Is the company that has won awards for being
kind to the environment?

    re: .-2

You did betterthan me then. I logged a call with IS a week ago asking
how to dispose of my old junk and have never yet received a response. I
agree that these things are not worth anything much (I guess someone
somewhere could extract some minimal amount of copper or whatever from
them?) but it seems strange that we have so much process at the
equipment accquisition stage (CARS, justifications etc etc) and no
process whatever (other than the de-facto "chuck it in the bin"
process) at the other end of it! Oh well, if IS don't respond this week
I'll be visiting the skip I think.

Send a mail to Simon Brickwood. He is the CCS helpdesk manager. Tell
him you logged a call, and you have yet to recieve a call back. Might
be a good idea to quote your log number too.
