| I'm not really sure why I'm bothering to write this. I'll say goodbye to nearly
everyone I know in DIGITAL personally, and it's a sad testament to current
fortunes that after nearly eight years it won't take very long. I guess the
real reason for this note is that I was enchanted by Notes Conferences when I
first saw them, and I wanted to write one last note.
When I started in October '89 I thought I'd arrived in paradise. The
environment and people (even management) were clever and dynamic, compared to
the dour, old, stupid defence contractor I came from. I managed to have a
couple of brilliant years before the cuts started to bite and even now I still
rate this corporation over most that I've encountered. I don't regret any of
the time I've spent here; even the recent years have brought valuable
experience.
I've had two great jobs. Half my time in VMS technical support in the North UK
CSC (anyone remember that?) and the other implementing bespoke systems in the
OSEC (SI), both in Warrington UK.
I'm off to a European Computer Services and Consultancy with a large local
operation. Hopefully still encountering DIGITAL people and kit.
My last day is the 18th of April. I'll be getting the drinks in at the Noggin
from around 12 O'clock onwards. See you there.

I too am leaving Digital after seven and a half glorious years (I started in
October 1989 too!!).
When I joined VMS support in Basingstoke I was so happy and proud to work here,
and people were pleased that I had joined. I have worked with VMS and UCX since
then and managed to achive more and more with less and less.
The end has finally arrived and on Monday 14th April I start as a Technical
Consultant with Integralis - a software and networking company.
I am very sad to leave, and thank everyone in Digital for the help and support
over the years, and I can only wish everyone the very best (either with Digital
or without), and hope that things finally do come right.
My best wishes to all, and I hope I will continue to meet my (now) ex-colleagues.
