398.0. "looking for somewhere to stay in the Bath/Dorset area" by VARDAF::CHURCH (Dave Church@VBE (DTN 828-6125)) Wed Apr 02 1997 10:49

I'm looking for family [2 adults+2 kids] accomodation around the
Bath/Dorset area in the UK for a week - just before the kids break up
for the summer holidays [in the UK].

I've been doing some web surfing and have a list of the tourist offices
in the area but if anyone has had any good experiences [accomodation
    wise] please let me know.

Some of the places we've tried already could fit 3 plus a babies cot or
they had a family room but the price was a bit too high.

Anyone know of a UK based notes conference where I could also ask the
    above?

    Thnx

    Dave

Dave, have you tried looking at the AA Guide on the web:

           http://www.theaa.co.uk/hotels/index.htm

Be careful to check the published prices with hotel first though!

    Chris,

Funny enough after entering the note I gave my sister a call to find
out if the UK have any chains of hotels like the F1 in France.

Anyway she mentioned Travelodge and so what with AltaVista I came
across the page. Guess what we were doing last night until the early
    hours...

Thanks for the pointer though - it confirms we were heading on the
    right track.

If the Travelodge concept appeals to you, then also look at Travelinns.
This is owned by Whitbread group, and run on exactly the same lines as
Travelodge. With both these chains, you need to make your reservations
early, as they tend to book up well ahead.

Unless you like queueing in the corridor with 20 other people whilst
the shower cleans itself, you'll probably find the Travel* chains
    more comfortable than Formule 1.

    Good hunting

    Thanks guys.

My wife phoned one place on the list we got, from the web pages, and it
wasn't available but they gave us the number of another place [farm]
and they've got a fair sized room which should sleep 2 adults/2 kids
comfortably, private bathroom next to the bedroom. English or
continental breakfast [we choose]. Folks sound nice on the phone...
And just down the road from Bath - where the wife comes from - and so
    she's happy.

All in for 50 pounds a night.

I doubt if we can do much better - now let's see what the place
actually looks like... and the size of my english breakfast.

    Dave,

please let us know what the place is like, and where it is. I plan
to visit Box this spring, and may need somewhere to rest my weary head.

    Thanks
